Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but how exactly would I go about optimizing my connection? I lost my windows XP cd and I don't want to mess anything up in the registry. Any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.

What speed did you pay yur ISP to give you?

I am paying for 8mbps.

Try the following with TCP Optimizer:

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC

Selective Acks - Yes

Advanced Settings tab:

Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect

Oh and by the way, after I did this, I compared my old speed to my current speed (which is way faster), and I also remembered the setting that windows uses to reserve 20% of your bandwidth. To disable this:

Go to to start, run, and type 'gpedit.msc' , then Local Computer Policy,Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Network, QOS Packet Scheduler, Limit Reservable Bandwidth. Right click and select properties. It will say not configured, however that is not correct. Select ENABLED and set the "Reservable Bandwidth" value to 0. Click apply then ok.

The changes should immediately take effect, however on some systems you may have to reboot your PC/reset internet connection.

This only works on Windows XP professional and Windows Server 2003.
