One of those kind that hit you over the head and you are "healed"?

They are amusing. Just like magicians.

No, but there's an interview he did with Larry King where he basically doesn't stand up for what Christians believe, instead relying on the old "I can't judge their hearts" move to avoid stating outright if he believes you can only go to heaven through acceptance of Jesus. KINDA important to Christianity, ya know.

thanks for your concern, but watching him on tv, the things he says and the way he says it makes sense to me. plastic or not, i figured it is worth a try. anything to stop the downward spiral.

comtrad, if you dont know him then you should at least do a little investigation. like i said, if he has my attention, he has something special.

You're better off finding a small, local church instead of the Super Bowl revivals hucksters like Osteen put on.

You can Google the clips and analysis of Osteen's appearance on LArry King, including his apologies when the backlash occurred.

*my opinion*

if you have to watch a guy on TV to become a Christian, you have bigger issues in your life than needing religion.

I'm just saying, that's all

i don't HAVE to watch him on tv to become a christian. i was flipping through the channels and saw him on and remembered my mom mentioning him so i decided to stop and watch for a minute. like i said, the things he says and they way he says them make sense to me. i do have issues bigger than what he or any other church/man of god can do for me, but i figured what could it hurt.

Well religion is about feeling better about yourself, so whatever ave. that is, to each his own.

Just don't pay him any money. lol

not gonna pay him any money. i am just desperately trying to better myself for my benefit and the benefit of everyone around me. if it turns out that he is a "plastic god", then i will move on and keep trying to better myself however that may be. like i said, what could it hurt?

no. i think what he really does is take scriptures from the bible and repeats them in Lyman's terms for people to understand better. it works for me so far.

I went to his mega church once, back when I lived in Houston. In my opinion he is a religious motivational speaker. He doesn't preach or teach people how to live in the way God would want you to. He tells people ways to live happier by having all the material things they want without feeling guilty about having lots of money or a nice house. He tells you things like how to not hold grudges, just let it go; have a happy outlook on life and your life will be happier; smile and you will feel better; think positive thoughts about a good job and you will get a high paying job, things like that. When I was at his church he very rarely quoted scripture or related it to today's way of life, but the collection plates were out in full force.

if it helps those in need of help, why not?

Because it's not a self-help seminar, it's billed as worship of the Christian God.

If people want feel-good new age stuff, they can locate the nearest Deepak Chopra lecture.

i did not say it was a self-help seminar. i said if it helps then why not. it seems to help me in some ways so i will be attending hoping to get a little help/insight from it.

Gixxer, I believe Burke was alluding to the fact that I called Joel a motivational speaker, which is a person who gives self help seminars. I say go there, watch and listen, then make up your own mind. It's a free country. Sort of.
And my answer to your question "if it helps those in need of help, why not?", see Burke's response to said question.

then do us both a favor and don't talk to this "coconut" or at least be polite enough to explain in detail what you mean. if you wanna be your usual rude ass self then avoid me altogether.

i don't care what the hell they "bill" it as. they could have called it "come here and we will tell you lies and take your money". it is hilarious you of all people don't get my point or choose not to.

my point is, if it helps in any way then i will listen.

it is hard for you to comprehend some very easy **** sometimes.

You sound like one of those Christians who attend places with names like, "Metro Church", "Center Church" or "Love Church."

Just enough doctrine to reel in the people, but plenty of ponytailed bass solos and empty, non-offensive preaching to make people feel good instead of actually instructing them in the tenets of New Testament Christianity.

Different people respond to different approaches. Saying one way is better or worse than another is doing the exact same thing some rail against.

I have a feeling Mr. Osteen has helped more people with their lives than burke though, but what do I know
