I want to buy a camera good for low light usage. And I've read this.
Fujifilm Finepix F40fd reviews.
And it seems that the price for the Fujifilm Finepix F40fd is quite nice for $190. So do you think this is a good choice, any other good suggestions?

The sensors are pretty much the same within a megapixel family of cameras. For low light, consider two things, high ASA number and lower F-stop (widest aperture). The higher the ASA, the greater the grain or noise. The lower the F-stop, less depth of field.

I just know that sony did well in the low light camcorders, not sure about the camera.

if you can afford it, get a DSLR for taking low light pic's. I recommend a nikon D40 (not the D40X, D40 is better in low light, read the reviews) or canon Rebel Xti. also get yourself a tripod to prevent camera shake.

I agree, a DSLR has a bigger lens and wider shutter and appeture selections. In manual you should be good to go.

If he is looking at a 190 USD camera, I am not all that certain he is in the marker for a DSLR. If so, I can speak for the XTi and its excellent low light characteristics. Photographs forthcoming.

Both were taken in darkness with some stage lighting. ASA 1600
