Either one of the Samsung Syncmaster 900 series or the Viewsonic 790. Both are flat screen, .25dp, from reputable companies and get rave reviews.

I don't own either of those 19-inch monitors, but I do own a 17-inch Viewsonic 17PS that is 5-years old and is one terrific monitor.

Congrats, and enjoy the shopping! :)

FWIW, I have 19" Hitachi CM-751 (.22 dp)on my PC, and Viewsonic E790 19" (.26 dp) on wife's PC- no comparison. The Hitachi is FAR superior to the Viewsonic, in every way.

Also, Viewsonic crapped out after 2 months- had to get a replacement.

At former employer, I bought 16 Hitachis for Engineering dept a couple yrs ago- all still going strong, and they love 'em. Every single Sony I bought prior to that died- one at a time- all of 'em (about 10).

Hitachi picture is brighter, crisper, and more control. Also colors seem more accurate.

They (Hitachi) now make a cheaper series, that a couple of friends have bought- CM715. While specs look similar to older 751, it is not the same quality. However, the CM771 is great (albeit more $$), and the CM772 Ergo Flat is gorgeous.

Buy.Com prices-
CM-715 300.95
CM-771 398.95
CM-772 485.95 (gulp)

i dont really like the physical appearance of those, i'm very picky as to how much plastic or whatever is added around the screen and for controls, U have to look at a monitor to use a PC so i have to like the total look of it.

I have the Dell P991 monitor and IT IS AWESOME!! You don't have to buy it through Dell though. Sony makes the monitor but they stamp Dells name on it. You would have to find the sony model number fot the Dell P991 monitor (its a Trinitron).

I think you'll really like it. Don't forgot to load the correct color profile for the monitor- will come on CD w/montir, or download. Correct current one makes a big difference if you're in photo editing. And don't be afraid of refresh rates- jack it up to specs. Don't live with the flickering crappy default 60hz your adapter will assign it when it sees it.

No WAY, I hate sony, over priced! nything they have that isnt is like crap! they do make a great product, if u buy one of the top 3 expensive models of whatever item u want, but buy the cheapest and it sucks.

SONY is the best thing ever known to the video industry! Their monitors, tv's and everything of theirs that is visual is TOP of the line. Unfortunately sony products are expensive, but u might be able to get a trinitron monitor in your budget on ebay.

Well, maybe that USED to be true, but I don't think so anymore. To me, their quality is not what it was (although their price still is!)

Like I said previous,
Every single Sony I bought prior to that died- one at a time- all of 'em (about 10).
That's a pretty dismal failure rate- and a failure rate without exception! Different models, sizes, and ages too! ALL of them. That is NOT what you expect when you shell out the large $$$ for Sony. I've got a couple old 15" MicroScans here at home (from the same place originally- so failure has nothing to do w/their environment) that are about 8 years old, and still work great. I use 'em every day still on test machines.

Save your money, and buy something else, like what others above have recommended.

SONY bunch of BOLOGNA to me!

I don't see what the big fuss is about. you're not going to notice a difference among most monitors without comparing them side-by-side.
