I have a verizon wirespeed modem. And heres my traceroute through yahoo. I always get a weird lag when i play games and i never got it before kasper sky installation.

There are a few things to do:

- Turn off power to your modem for 5 mins.
- Relocate your modem to a location a few feet away from all other electrical devices to avoid electrical interference.
- Tweak your comp registry indicated below

Try the following with TCP Optimizer:

General Settings tab:
Custom settings - check
Modify All Network Adapters - check
network adapter selection - your NIC
MTU 1480
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 63360
MTU Discovery - Yes
Black Hole Detect - No
Selective Acks - Yes
Max Duplicate ACKs - 2
TCP 1323 Options:
Windows Scaling - uncheck
Timestamps - uncheck

Advanced Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
LocalPriority - 1
Host Priority - 1
DNSPriority - 1
NetbtPriority - 1
Lan Browsing speedup - optimized
QoS: NonBestEffortLimit - 0
ToS: DisableUserTOSSetting - 0
ToS: DefaultTOSValue - 80
MaxNegativeCacheTtl - 0
NetFailureCacheTime - 0
NegativeSOACache Time - 0
LAN Request Buffer Size - 32768
Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect

Do a deep scan with SpyBot and Ad-Aware 2007 and see if something should not be in the comp.

can you explain to me where in that tracert you see a problem ?
cuz the only problem i see is way down at yahoo.
thats not your problem thats yahoo.
look at all the hops up to it,, they are fine.

so whats the problem ?

wierd lag in games doesnt always mean its your network.

uninstalling an antivirus is usally a very ugly thing.
those programs leave hundred of files and registry entires left on your system that are still active in some shape or form

you need to go thru and find out how to do a complete and utter removal of everything kapersky and then use AVG.

kapersky cant do anything to your network adapter or your internet unless you had some sort of kapersky network security tools installed such as spyware monitor, and/or a firewall that still active and making things go wierd.

but it didnt do anything to your network or its settings.
the windows repair feature not working is odd. but simply rebooting your machine will do the same thing.
you can also open a command prompt and do ipconfig /release then when thats done to ipconfig /renew and it does the same thing.

Problem is seen at the spike in ping times starting at hop 1 (the modem) and passed onto hop 2.

Suggest you search for an answer at the forum page of Kapersky.

yes they are spikes and nearly double in latency but still VERY low latency.
it wont hurt your gaming not at that low unless your getting packet loss.

verizon isnt known for having the best dsl or networks out there.

run a long ping and see how many of them time out over a period of 5 minutes

ping http://www.yahoo.com -t -l 1500
you will get time outs if your getting packet loss.
change 1500 to whatever your dsl uses.
1500 is standard for cable

technically you can use a 1 meg file ping. it just increases your latency but gives a better feel of packet loss
i use
ping http://www.yahoo.com -t -l 10000 to really do a slam on the node to test for loss.

you can also do ping 10.5.42.1 -t -l 1500 to ping your modem directly and find out if your modem or router is bad.

but over all those pings arent spikes thats normal
try it yourself, ping your 10.x.x.x number you'll get spikes too
i just did mine and get a spike from 18-30ms with an average of 23ms.
but my speeds are fine i run over 14800 download and 970 upload.

spikes at that low of latency wont do anything.

i got kaspersky internet security 7.0 stupidly and thats where everything fouled up. From what the kaspersky people are saying i did uninstall completely, yet the problem persists. Its definitely kaspersky that messed everything up. Ive gone over it time after time and i sitll can't find the problem.
