I propose carrying out this test in the heart of Wall Street. The results may be unexpected.

The fake gift certificate had his phone number on it so the people who called to redeem it were making **** up to try and get the money. What a bunch of ass holes.

The differences in race and age groups could aslo be considered socio-economic. Honesty comes easier when you do not need the money.

I do not believe rich people are mostly honest. Level of wealth is relative and being satisfied with one's level of wealth is all in the mind. How many people earning hundreds of thousands a year still display dishonesty and greed?

You make a good point, but it would depend more on the stakes. Returning a wallet can bring in a new client for a wealthy businessman. He would also be less likely to attempt to fraudulently use a found credit card.

It is not a true measure of honesty.

If I find a wallet with cash on it and theirs no idea/info associating the person with police/fire/rescue/military, I'm keeping the cash.

I have found 2 wallets, a checkbook and a retirement watch that I can remember. Returned it all. Not because I was "good", but because I thought it would make someone really happy and it's a reward to see the look on their face. Now if I found a paper sack full of cash I'd be inclined to keep it. probably dope money and I'd rather see my kids go to college than someone smoking crack!

How should the test been done differently?

I think some of you are looking way too far into this.

Throw a wallet in front of someone, see what they do.

Pretty cut and dry.
