I just bought it waiting for it to come in. But i was wondering becasue my friend went to the store yesterday and bought a hewlet packard p4 1.3 witha 32 meg tnt card, nice computer, but i am now curious because i am wondering how much faster his will be, and would maybe like to be close, how high do u think i can overclock my 900 with the at7a board? i have a upgraded fan with it??? don't know which one, but i also have this big card cooler, ( which is awsome ) do u think i can overclock and how much??? thx and also just a guess, how does this compare to being quality???? meaning whats out there what does this combo rate say on a scale of 1-10 10 being the best??

well, i'm no AMD buff, but i'm guessing 1,100 mhz or more if you have a really good cooler. as for the combo, i'm guessing it's a 9 on the performance scale.

If you build your own, its already a better computer than that HP your friend bought. It may have a p4, but I will not be as fast as yours, unless he formats his drive and tweaks everything. A friend of mine bought a P3 800. My *homemade* AMD K6-3 400 would smoke his machine. His came preinstalled with all this *crap* that he didnt need. I finally convinced him to let me have one day with his computer. When I got done, it was booting in 28 seconds (compared to his previous time of 3 1/2 minutes). He was real pleased when he got it back.
I would always suggest building your own over buying one from a retail store, but thats just my humble opinion. I think you will be pleased with your new machine.
If the mobo CD has the 4.26 version drivers, I would suggest downloading the 4.25 drivers from VIA website. Heard some bad stuff about the 4.26. They now have the 4.28 out, but I havent tried them yet.

1.1Ghz for sure if u have a decent cooler....
Look at some website, they've bench marked a P4 1.5Ghz and a T-Bird 1.2Ghz, T-bird kicked P4's @$$....so i think urs will beat his
I personally own a 1Ghz@1.2, and it does kick @$$...

There is a site that explains it... but here's a summary. Something about how the math works. A p4 1.5gig is actually slower then a thunderbird 1gig. I might have the info tilted, but that's raw speed. The p4 will work better on some applications, but in pure benchmarks the thunderbird is faster. It has something to do with the p4 having more instructions. Trust me... your computer will kick his a$$. A computer is SO MUCH MORE THEN THE CPU. i had a nicely tweaked amd550 and it was just as fast as a friends athlon 950. I'm sure of it was that I had a good mobo and I took care of my computer.
