Going to play my first ever golf tourney this weekend?

The only problem is I have never played golf. We are only playing 9 holes (Quiet Cat) and its on a Scottish style course. From what I understand its very difficult. The good part is its all paid for, box lunch, open bar and a lobster dinner and dance. Did I say open bar? I think it was all I needed to hear.
Any bets on which of the nine holes I will fall out of the golf cart on.
BTW, its a fun tourney, no one will kill me if I suck I hope.

Thx, I always wanted to play, just didn't want to start a new hobby. Going after my ham radio ticket in 2 weeks. $$$

So have fun, Lefty!
A hint...take someone who knows a bit about golf and go hit a bucket of balls before you go.

Very difficult? For you, yes. From what I've heard you have trouble enough handling just ONE hole. Always shooting your balls in the rough, never getting it in the hole and so forth.

I never really understood golf until I got older. Now, after dealing with some of the idiots on the street, I can understand the desire to have a few drinks and whack the absolute dog chit out of something with a stick.

If it's for fun or charity, I'm sure the others will be more than accepting of your inability to play (I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but golf isn't a sport that most people can just "wing" on the first outing).
If they're actually keeping score...those are going to be the longest nine holes you'll ever play.
I'm sure you'll have a great time though, and hopefully you'll find yourself enjoying the game enough that you'll want to go again in the future. Good luck.

Mt 1st tourney was a three person scrabble. I was the chipper. We won by 2 strokes, each got $100, minus the carts, registration fees and cooler full of beer. We each had like 5 or 6 bucks plus all the bragging rights.
Fun game. I've spend a few years pounding a bucket of balls 1 or 2 times a week at lunch. Good times with the right mix of friends playing. Hated the stuffy rich snobbs who looked down their noses at you. I've not thought of golf in years... thanks, good thread... good luck Lefty!

Don't forget to wash your balls every few holes. Oh yeah and keep a firm, but flexible grip on your shaft. Remember...it's all about positioning.

Speaking of famous Scottish style courses....I'm working smack in the middle of a very exclusive one right now.
