WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Six men were arrested overnight after being accused of plotting an attack against Fort Dix in New Jersey, and federal charges were to be filed Tuesday, sources told CNN.
The six men were planning to use automatic weapons to shoot soldiers at the Army post, according to a federal law enforcement source and a senior government source.
The men, some of whom were related to each other, had been doing surveillance and planning "for a while," and they trained in the Poconos, according to the federal law enforcement source

From the story:
They played paintball and test-fired weapons, a law enforcement source said
Yep, sleeper cell....apparently they are from the arm of the 'All your base are belong to us' terrorist organization....instead of terrorizing civilians they go after a secured compound full of men with automatic weapons.....genius...pure genius I tell ya.
While authorities are glad to have arrested them, the individuals are "hardly hard core terrorists,"
I feel safer already....

well they were islamic radicals... It appears according to many news sites they were from various islamic countries....so I don't understand the need to be "flashy" even if it was 2men or 1?

well you have to think about it this way.. would be pretty bad to get it in your own base let alone trying to do the job with your own gun in your hand.

I don't understand the perception you give though? It doesn't make sense.. you make it sound as if its nothing important at all and has no meaning towards anything?

Are soldiers on base 24/7? Do you know how they were planning on carrying out their attack? I imagine that if a soldier is in his homebase in his homeland, his guard is not up, if at all, as it would be on an actual battlefield. Never mind, this is just a made up story, right?

I would hope that the base is guarded...most usually are. Made up ?...no ...sensationalized ?......absolutely. Of course the target was in New York so it had to be a legit threat ....right? Did Rudy stop 'em all by himself ?

Lives were saved that is the end result
The federal government Monday charged six alleged "Islamic radicals" with plotting to kill U.S. soldiers at Fort Dix in New Jersey.

The six were arrested Monday night, the U.S. attorney's office in New Jersey said in a written statement, and are expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Camden on Tuesday afternoon.

"Their alleged intention was to conduct an armed assault on the army base and to kill as many soldiers as possible," the office said.

Officials scheduled a news conference at 2:30 p.m. ET to discuss the case.

The White House said there is no suspected link to any international terrorist group.

A complaint filed in the case says one of the six used to deliver pizza to Fort Dix and knew it "like the palm of his hand."

One of the suspects was born in Jordan, another in Turkey, the attorney's office said. The rest are believed to be from the former Yugoslavia, "either U.S. citizens or living illegally in the United States."

An FBI official said three of the six are in the U.S. illegally.

A criminal complaint filed in federal court in New Jersey said a paid informant who infiltrated the group "consensually recorded" meetings.

An FBI official said six complaints are being filed.

One complaint names as the defendant Dritan Duka, and says he conspired with four others: Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer, Eljvir Duka, Shain Duka and Serdar Tatar.

The sixth individual, named in an FBI affidavit accompanying that complaint, is Agron Abdullahu.

A complaint naming him as the defendant charges him with aiding and abetting the three Dukas, "who were then aliens illegally and unlawfully in the United States, to possess in and affecting commerce firearms."

The defendants did not immediately release statements or respond to the charges.

The complaint says the group "conducted firearms training in Gouldsboro, Pennsylvania." It also says Shnewer conducted surveillance at several U.S. military sites: Fort Dix and Fort Monmouth in New Jersey, Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, and the U.S. Coast Guard building in Philadelphia.

"On or about November 28, 2006," Tatar acquired a map of Fort Dix, the complaint says.

The complaint alleges that Dritan Duka ordered four AK-47 Kalashnikov fully-automatic machine guns as well as M-16 firearms and handguns, and that Shnewer ordered an AK-47 Kalashnikov as well.

The complaint also mentions a second paid informant.

A law enforcement source told CNN the group played paintball and test-fired weapons as part of their training.

One of the sources said there is a video and an audiotape of the planning.

New Jersey State troopers and the FBI were involved in investigating and arresting the suspects.

White House spokesman Tony Snow said the six "are not being charged with being members of an international terrorism organization. At least at this point there is no evidence they received direction from international foreign terrorist organizations. However their involvement in weapons training, operational surveillance, and discussions about killing American military personnel warranted a strong law enforcement response."

While authorities are glad to have arrested them, the individuals are "hardly hard core terrorists," one law enforcement source said.

Another source said that while the allegations are "troubling," they are "not the type that made the hair on the back of your neck stand up."

Fort Dix is used to train members of the Army Reserve and National Guard for missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.

It was used in 1999 to house ethnic Albanian refugees from Kosovo, according to the Defense Department Web site.

more than likely.....yes..... which is why they were determined a threat ...watched...then arrested....I will not believe that this was some MAJOR AQ undertaking when it appears this was, at this point, a group of guys with a similar ethnic background that shared a value set that were attempting to perpetrate a crime...even the article has radicals in quotes??

training in the poconos?....paintball?....bringing a cd into a video store to have it done? ....they must be ghetto terrorists or somethin' cuz they weren't being funded like others have been....

no..I don't keep up with GH's comments..but you didn't have to say anything directly pointing out that Bush had anything todo with anything.

But you mentioned Bush when you could have mentioned anybody at any givin time.

But since it was a act that was stopped and lives were saved on our own soil then I see it as a good thing not something to point out negative issues over. But none the less the discussion turned Political in a matter of minutes just like the Virginia tech discussion did, not just on this forum but hundreds of others.

you're still waaaaaay off base....but kinda getting closer......you turned it political by claiming that I was doing it by using Bush's name to prove that Prey is delusional (not like we need proof.. anyway)....you again misunderstood and continue to do so which perpetuates this ridiculous ZOMGTERROR! thread........yes... glad people weren't harmed ..ya ya ....if you guys need further help my beef is with the media for sensationalizing the event and changing their headline....

Glad they caught them. I just wish they were all that dumb.

Izzo, are you going to concede that it was a good thing they were caught no matter how stupid they were? I am not asking whether it was a "signifigant" bust that was going to save thousands of lives and help get information towards the higher ups in any organization. Just was it a good thing these six yahoos were caught?

I admit it was a pretty weak plan, but no matter what, it IS a good thing they were caught. Saving one soldiers life (or from getting injured) is a good thing IMO

Also, chances are they probably would have wound up shooting a wife, kid, or janitor rather than just soldiers. At least they were targeting soldiers compared to just civies the way most terrorists do. Not saying it was good guys obviously, but better targeting Ft Dix than Washington elementary school or whatever is nearby

that was never the issue with me in the first place....i mean ...we could play 'what-if's' all day long about this .....my contention is that it really wasn't a credible threat to begin with and the media sensationalized it for whatever reasons

I do kinda have this gut feeling that the next step in terrorism for AQ and the like will be sort of like this though.....a few guys with weapons that show up at a mall, movie theater, office building ...even in a neighborhood street and just start gunning people down until thery get taken out.....honestly i'm surprised we aren't seeing it now.....

I suppose records of their cable bill will show they were avid fans of Showtime's- "Sleeper Cell"..

if they really had wanted to kill some troops, they would have..AK-47's etc..
There was something else there they wanted..sounds more like a top-secret heist gone bad...
