after installing mcafee office and fiinding out what a piece of **** it is-giving me blue screens and acting very unstable, also giving error on .vxd files i decided to take it of my system which wasnt easy, left all kinds of crap in my system files and tons of key codes i my register.
i have all that cleaned out really good with a reg editer now but after installing and uninstalling the software to get it to work it seemed to add c:\ to the black start up screen when it boots up five times in a row.
where can i edit this and take out all the c:\,all i need is one,im pretty sure because it wasnt like that before
i looked in my c:\windows\system.ini and boot up files and cant find it
anybody know
thanks in advance

c:\autoexec.bat mcafee progs like to change that. autoexec.nt if ur using NT / 2k system
edit that and add
"REM" without quotes followed by a space to the beginning of any line you don't want to run.
like this
C:\mcafee\bull\blah.exe BEFORE
REM C:\mcafee\bull\blah.exe AFTER

One we get this figured out I know what causes the c:/> to be repeated on bootup, it's a few extra empty lines at the bottom of our autoexec.bat file that can be edited out, once this Dos sound driver it taken care of
hey norm
sounds like your getting close to solution, let me know when you have it tackeled-sure want to get rid of those extra c:>'s

I fixed it by ununstlling all my Creative software, deleting my auto exec.bat file, deleting the c:\Program Files\Creative dir (still there after uninstall too), installing System Mechanic, and did the registry clean feature. Then made a new autoexec.bat file in the root of c:
One thing to remember for future....once you go into msconfig and edit the autoexec.bat file there, windows makes a copy under some other name and keeps replacing it whether we like it or not. I couldn,t find it anywhere and just got so frustrated I did the reg clean from System Mechanic and let it handle it. You probably don't need the SB Dos drivers anyway. Good Luck
