helo everybody,

this is my first visit to this nice forum and I want to start with this problem I'm having, here we go:

I work in small office we are 11 each have a winxp pc forming a LAN using a switch, recently I connected the office to a wireless provider for internet access using an edimax AP and we are allowed just one IP address. so what i did to share the internet is like below:

.

Obviusly iam using Internet Connection Sharing on my pc.

sometimes I notice or someone complains that the connection is slow or almost dead, and i found that this is because somone or more than one in the office keep downloading using these torrent programs.

I want to buy a router to solve this but to be honest I don't know where to put it in our scinario and how to configure it to keep the internet shared and
prevent the torrent and maybe some websites...

I work in the sales not expert in networking but iam sure you guys are so help me plz.

Routers are my preferred method of having a network share an internet connection.

However..they generally have an ethernet WAN port (the outside internet connection port)..to plug in your cable modem or DSL modem or ethernet from a form of T.

Your wireless connection...need more info here...is there a subscriber module outside your window or up on the roof? A citywide Canopy or WiMax provider?

Those peer to peer programs will kill internet connections...especially if there are other PCs on the network that need to use the internet. Not to mention..you said "office" network...so I'm assuming business related. Peer to peer programs are notorious for bring in ad/spyware, trojans, worms, etc. For people to use them at home..that's there call IMO, their PC they're putting at risk. But in a business, IMO, no place for P2P.

I don't know exactly what you mean, all I have is an access point works in station infastructure mode and is getting it's signal from the provider access point 300 m away.

what should I do exactly, sure u are true there must be some restricted policy for those, but first I want apply the router so nobody would even think about violation.

Ok, in this situation, get the router, connect the cable from the AP to the router (instead the ICS machine), connect all of the other machines, and you should be good to go. You can also limit the bandwidth available to the torrent programs in most of the newer routers.
