SG Broadband Community

I use M$ Office97. It does everything I want. Should I replace it with M$Works4.5, which I have?
If I do so, I will have to learn a new system, etc. Will I get anything in return? Or am I comparing apples and oranges and there is a place for both?

my 2c worth...off97 has more to offer in my opinion. stick with off97 and if you like it try upgrading to off2K...it's even better...imho

Obviously you should use what best fits your needs.

MS Office is in much greater use and will allow you to view more documents, so if you are needing to transfer documents from work to home or school to home, etc. I would recommend staying with word.

I have found MS office 2000 to be everything I need and have no intention to switch to MS works.

My understanding is MS works is a lower level word processing bundle created for home users that don't need/want the powerful featuress that come with office 2000 or the price tag either.

MS Works is TRASH, stick with MS Office. Why use something as lame as MS Works? MS Office destroys Works and its the most popular suite in the PC World. You ever hear of a big company using MS Works? I don't think so.

Tx, guys.I felt myself that Office was superior. But feelings are one thing, while expert opinion is another.

I will point out again that Office and Works were developed for two different markets.

To say one is trash and the other is better is a ledge I would not leap out on.

Both have advantages that make them the BEST solution for people.

Just because one meets a particular persons needs better does not mean that it will meet another persons needs better.

Believe it or not but Word Perfect is still the most popular processor in law offices because Microsoft doesn't adhere to standards that the law community is required to.

Look at the features and then decide.

I already provided my opinion on the matter in my previous post so I wont list the groups of people each product was geared for again.

What is "law community"? A bunch of lawyers? Members of ABA? It never occured to me that they have any stardards, less so that they are "required". Require to aghere to non-existent standards? Please explain.

When lawyers file paperwork in court they must be in a specific format.

If they aren't in a specific format then the court will reject them and tell them to format them properly.

According to the law community Word Perfect is able to format the documents properly while MS Office is still lacking features and also has bugs that would have the paperwork rejected.

These bugs existed in Word 97 and have yet to be fixed in 2000.

Meanwhile WordPerfect has a version of its software created for law offices.

more and more computer-based jobs are asking for ms office experience and not ms works (or wordperfect).

Again it depends on your industry.

In general I would agree however there are large pockets out there that do not use office and will not for quite some time if ever.

There is no excuse not to at least know your way around word perfect and works.

Works was never designed for big office use, it was designed with home users in mind that can't afford to shell out a lot of money for a WP.
