It is a great day no doubt! Great first half of the first game too. I sure hope Costa Rica can pull this one out. Wanchope is an awseome footballer. Now if only my cable provider offered ESPN2 HD.

watching Sweden vs. Trinidad now ...
I know nothing about soccer, but I am interested in it because it is so huge everywhere in the world except the USA ...
One of the nurses that helped me while I was in the hospital the other day was from Trinidad ... he kept talking about this awesome chicken & rice dish he made and served up w/ some cold beer - all this while I was about to starve - hadn't had anything to eat or drink for 14 hours at that point ....
but I digress ...

Trinidad did well considering they were expected to be beaten badly.

Argentina is doing good! nice couple goals, but they've had some real nice definsive saves!

Ivory coast better start taking their chances, this is one group where you can't afford to lose by a heavy margin. That said, the second goal was a real defensive splitter.Offside trap wasn't played to perfection.Nice to see Maradona enjoying himself

me too

long as I'm laid up I may as well watch some matches ...
I think the USA's first match is against the Czech Republic Monday @ 11:00am (?)
I have a question: why does the time clock count up instead of down?
(maybe I need to do a Google on soccer rules ....)
edit:
here's the official site

I have a question: why does the time clock count up instead of down?
That's the rule for soccer/football.The clock will accumulate as opposed to a countdown. If there are injuries(or any stoppages etc) in a game, then time is added to on the game and it's called stoppage/injury time.If the clock counts down, that will among other things defeat the whole purpose of time added on(stoppage/injury time) and frankly speaking, time counting down is only attributed to "American sports".Hope you get my drift, but of course you can always google.

No doubt.

They didn't control the ball well at all, they rushed every possession down the field when they should have been taking their time and using up clock. They were also not as fast as the Ivory Coast players and they only got lucky because Ivory Coast has the worst goal keeper in the entire tournament.

Ivory Coast was fast but they had a bunch of guys standing still. Argentina looked to have much better passing and better thought in making plays. THey just got lazy, relaxed at the end.
