Ethernet Switch Question

I have a Netgear Gigabit rackmounted ethernet switch. It has 2x 40mm cooling fans in the rear. They are extremely noisy!!

If I disconnect them, will that have a detrimental effect on the operation of the unit if I'm only using the unit to say 30-50% of its 'potential power', as such?

Item is:

Netgear GS524T 24 Port 10/100/1000 Rack-mountable Gigabit Switch

I would never disconnect those fans. Even the smallest switches can get pretty hot, regardless of workload, and if it runs 24/7 then it would just be a matter of time before the unit would most likely overheat.

They are there for a reason and disconnecting them would be a bad idea. You are finding out why this type of equipment is typically kept in an isolated temperature controlled room somewhere away from users.

BTW these things do through off a LOT of heat. I have a Cisco model setup in my home network and it raises the tenmperature of the room it is int (also has a server and router) noitcably.
