A photograph by Edward Steichen has sold for more than $4 million, easily setting a world record for the highest-priced photograph ever auctioned, Sotheby's said.
The Pond-Moonlight, taken on Long Island in 1904, sold on Tuesday for $US-4 million, including the buyer's premium, Sotheby's spokesman Matthew Weigman said.
The photo shows a pond in a wooded area, with light coming through the trees and reflected in the water.

If I were a complete moron with more money than I knew what to do with, then yes. But since I am a moron on a budget, I wouldn't!

well I would say that in 1904 Color Photography was probably extremely rare. I don't think its just 4mil for the photo but more for the historic/artistic value.
Maybe its one of the first color and non-flash photographs taken? Its a nice pic but there has to be more to the story then just the price.

I just paid $4 for a couple of powerball tickets. If I won, I would get a farm. Hang out and take a loss for tax purposes.

I'll PM you with my PayPal account info.
Even if I was a Billionaire, I would pay that kind of cash for a photo. There's too many good things you can do for others with that kind of $$$$$$$$
