i can't install windows XP on a SATA HDD
i know if u press F6 during the installation you can manual install the SATA driver for the HDD but if i don't have Floppy disk then what happen ?
is there anyway i can install windows XP on SATA without A drive?
is it windows XP SP2 have SATA driver build in or something like that
i really need to install the new windows on that machine

this machine have windows XP installed on it already but it was a 30 days version which friend of mine got from a local computer store
i have my own windows XP installation disc but i can't seem to install it on the machine
it keep asking me to activate the windows
is there anyway i can pass that and install a fresh version of XP on it ?

It shouldnt need a driver unless its a RAID array, is it detected in the BIOS?

Right ... I got two and they installed no problems ...only thing i can think you'd need a driver for is RAID

Also, note that there is NO such thing as a "30 day version" of windows xp. Legal copies of xp require product activation within 30 days, except for MSDN Subscribtions which are 60 days. Some multi-licence versions do not require product activation at all. The disk you got from the friend is a pirated illegal copy of xp.

If the bios detects your sata drive, and xp does not detect it, then you can install the sata drivers during the install w/out a floppy disk. Put the driivers on a cdr and when prompted for the drivers by the install, pop out the xp cd & put in the drivers cd.

I agree with TonyT, there is no "30-day" version of Win XP, you just have 30-days to register/activate...hope you don't owe your friend a favor for the copy he got you....G/L with it.

yeah the version of windows is from local computer store and it asking to activate between 30 days
my friend didn't buy the windows CD from the store
is there anyway that i can activate the windows with my copy
i try to change the CD key but it not allow me and doesn't let me do anything
there is only one SATA HDD on the computer so i don't think there is RAID in here
also there is no other option other than floppy when i press F6 to try to install SATA driver

You shouldn't need the sata drivers IF the install disk is xp w/ sp2, otherwise, copy the drivers to a floppy from the driver cd or take out the xp install cd and pop in the driver cd, xp will find it. XP won't give a choice to browse the cdrom because the xp cd is in the cdrom drive, so take it out & put it back in after the drivers get loaded.

Shouldnt but most likely will cuz MS doesnt put the most common drivers on their cd.

SP2 doesnt help with Nvidia, silicon image, or intel sata drivers.

I've never tried pulling the CD out and sticking a drivers one in, at what point do u do that?

I believe you can do it at any point after pressing F6, at least that's what a tech who sold me my new MB & sata drive told me, but he could be incorrect and it very well may be that one needs to put the driver on a floppy.

I had that problem and the solution was disabling the option "native sata" in setup. After install XP SP2 you can enable it again. before I discover this I've tried many things but without success.

Intel SATA controller for me...no need to feed a disk, original version of XPp CD....installed several times.

F-6 is common for installing controller drivers for hardware that came out after the OS was released..since the OS will not have native support for that hardware. There is nothing "idoicy" about it.

Yep.. I have a system with first gen SATA, that I need to load drivers
from a floppy to install Windows XP.

Though rudely phrased I think it was more directed at being able to remove the CD and insert another.
