Problems installing OS

I'm building a test system to do some platform testing/QA stuff with, its a Jetway 861CS mobo with a Duron 700MHz CPU and 2x128MB of PC-133 RAM.
The system posts fine and detects all the IDE devices (CD-ROM and a HDD) and prompts me to boot from CD-ROM, but when I do this, it goes to the "Setup is inspecting your computers Hardware Configuration..." prompt and then jsut hangs there.
I've tried different memory sticks, I've cleared the CMOS and tried both a WinXP and a Win2K boot disk, all to no avail.
Any suggestions?

I had is problem the other day, Setup would keep freezing, XP and 98se. I switched up CPU's from an AMD to a celeron and Setup worked great.

What? You put a celeron in an AMD socket?

Will a pebuilder CD load?
i'd try 1 stick of ram, maybe up the ram voltage a bit if you can.

how long did it hang??? I've noticed some systems sit there for several minutes before going on with the loading.

It hung overnight
Tried an Unbuntu Live disc, had a failure. I've tried 3 different CD-Rom drives, thinking either the IDE cable or IDE contoller might be hosed.

Blisster,
Hi2u!
Did you run any memtest type program on the memory?
Is the CPU fan spinning?

no memtest.
It posts, all fans spin, goes through all the BIOS stuff. I think its an IDE issue, but not sure yet.

Yes, I was using an older AMD that could fit into a socket seven. I don't know why but I guess the motherboard didnt like AMD processor, So I switched em up and setup worked great.

I think i'm dizzy from thinking that far back.

I trashed the system and bought an old PII system to test on. I've already wasted too many hours on it, I think the IDE contoller is shot or something.
