New computer 3.2 CPU, 2 GiG's RAM which is what I wanted the most, most tests taken with the following running in background: Webcam, No not for Pron, but so brother in DC can see home, Norton Ghost, Norton Anti Virus, TZO for Domain name in router for webcam, Speed up my PC ver 2.4, Incredimail, Spysweeper and Cachman RAM booster, whew:

Stuff running in the background wont affect your speed, neither will the rest of your computer, save for maybe a older, slow spinning HD or cruddy NIC.

Hi Mad Doc, how are ya, fine I hope, above he said things running in taskbar won't slow you down, first time I ever heard that, anyway now I have 2 GiGs RAM does not matter.Anything that uses RAM WILL slow you down unless you have alot of it.

You mis-read what I said.

I know background applications slow down your tasks, but not your internet speed. The headend CMTS doesnt know what speed computer you're running, either does your modem, and neither one cares.

Speed will vary greatly dependant on other factors. It wont be the exact same everytime, so if you gain or lose some Kbps, its because its not a consistent connection and wont ever be.
