Domain trusts question

I have a domain (WinNT SP6) that I control that has 25 pc's on it. I need those PC's to be able to sign in to a domain (server 2003 enterprise) that I do not control.

Now that domain (the one I do not control) shows up in the drop down box.

However if you try to sign into it you get an error about trusts or something (sorry not in front of it right now)

I'm assuming that the problem is on the domain that I do not control and not the one I do control.

PS if this is in the wrong forum, please move it.

Trusts in NT4 are one way non transative trusts. Trusts in an Active Directory are two way transitive, (unless it's an external trust such as to NT4)
You therefore need to make a one way external trust from the Active directory to the NT4 domain so that it trusts the nt4 domain. If computers in the AD need to log onto computers in the NT4 domain, then the NT4 domain must trust the Active directory.
In NT4 trust are made in User Manager for Domains, in an Active Directory they are made in Active Directory domains and trusts.

Hope that helps.

You need to upgrade that biotch! :D

Dude, objohn pretty much said it. The 2k3 server needs to trust your NT domain and there are changes to be made on both servers by an administrator.

Well yes besides upgrade.. :p

Yeesh..NT4...I only have 1x left in all my clients..at a satellite office of theirs, and they're about to fiiiinally pull the trigger on replacing it.

You need to touch both ends.

Well, My NT server was able to "establish connection" with the 2003 domain now.

I'm waiting for the 2003 to reciprocate. Probably be waiting another year for that.

Note: In my first post the server was 2000 not 2003. That domain has been upgraded to 2003.

Maybe. ;) Replace everything at once next summer.

Or after I get done with my ghosting project, look for an alternative server. :)

Success! (Finally)

The 2003 server wanted a "Strong" password from the NT machine and.... the rest is history. (I hope). :)
