"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

I believe you may want to go here and edit the video.con file.

C:\Documents and Settings\(your pc name here)\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

then edit the resolution.

did you follow the directions from tweakguides?

Config Files

Aside from the in-game settings, Battlefield 2 has a large number of config (.con) files spread throughout its directories. These files can be edited using a text editor like Windows Notepad or Wordpad. Before editing any .con file, first make sure you make a backup copy of it.

However as you may have noticed, editing many of these .con files can prove pointless as the changes seem to have no impact. I have found that the main configuration files which do have an impact are found under your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\ directory, with the settings for each profile (whether an online or offline profile) are listed under a numbered directory (e.g. \0001 for the first profile, etc.). Note, I don't recommend that you edit the files under the \Default directory. To see which particular profile is currently in use, open the Global.con file under the \Profiles parent directory first, then see which number it mentions, and go to that particular numbered directory to find the files mentioned below.

Most of the settings in these .con files can and should be altered using the in-game options. However there are a few things you can adjust which are unique to the .con files:

Video.con

VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@75Hz

This setting controls your current resolution in Battlefield 2. The format is Width x Height@Refresh Rate. If you cannot start up BF2 and change the resolution from within the game, try altering it here to help you startup the game. In particular when you want to launch BF2 for the first time and the game just crashes back to desktop (See Troubleshooting Tips section), you can change the resolution from its default of 800x600@60Hz to one your monitor supports. Note however that certain resolutions are unsupported and entering them here will not work - see the Command Line section further below.

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 4

VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 4

VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 4

VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 4

VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 4

VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 4

VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 4

VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 4

All of the above settings can be adjusted from within the in-game Video settings. However the highest they can be set to is High from within the game (a value of 3). By setting them each to 4 in Video.con (as shown above), you will have them displayed as 'Videosettings_Ultrahigh' in the in-game Video settings screen, and some people believe this increases the graphics quality to Ultrahigh levels. I didn't see any impact from this change, but if you want the absolute best quality in BF2 give it a try.

one more thing dumbdumb....editing the command line won't give you an option in the video settings....it will just play the damn game at that resolution.

Your command line is incorrect. BF2 still thinks you have a 4 x 3 aspect ratio because of "+fullscreen".

I should look like this:

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200
You can replace 1920x1200 with 1680x1050, 1280x800, 1200x720, or 740x480.

As for the HUD and the menu screen, this setting only alters ingame aspect ratio and resolution parameters. In your C:\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles folder there is a file called "DefaultVideo.Con" or something like that. There is a cvar line that alters FOV or Field of View. 1 represents 90 degrees and I've heard, but not changed myself, that 1.15 is perfect for a 16:10 screen like the Dell 2405FPW. Which, co-incidently, is the monitor I sport myself! :thumb: $729 Dell Prefferred Customer. :rtfm:

Good Luck,
EvoL

EVOl, I set it to +widescreen and saw no change.

Loaded the *.exe directly and set it to 1600x1200 and it was strechted out, so its working right for me either way.

Ya..I make it as far as the login to account screen then I crash ...is just changing the shortcut enough or do I have to change the .con file?

All I did was the shortcut I think.

Copy it exact from your shortcut link to here.

It is but you won't see it as an option in game ...it will just be that way in game.

thanks.its just i cought earlier in the thread was said some resolutions arent supported.I took that to mean even with the shortcut change or vid.con change.Im taking it back i guess cause of this and also some fairly bad backlight bleed-

If the game is freezing that has to do with your system, maybe the res is too much for your video card to keep up with.

Are you OCing?

Posted: Sun Jun 18, 2006 3:12 pm
by Bandit159
not oc'ing.well, that is possible, but the freezez have also occired before the map would even load. That also,if i put the res edit right in video.con file, this causes a hook error and the game wont load.on the other hand, even if i put lower res such as in there, same error anything above 1280x1040.I know thats an incorrect ratio, but it should at least work.Im running SLI setup(7800gtx) and i know it can handle it.I could be wrong, but for all this trouble, not worth it to figure out as i have no problem running such as 1600x1200 on present lcd-

yeah , if you edit the wrong.con file it wont start..set it to max 1280x1024
