I have a friend that has windows 98 on her computer.

Today when she clicked on explorer to log onto the internet, she got the following message:

Microsoft visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error

Program C: windows/explorer.exe

This application has requested runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.

So she contacts Microsoft and gets a spanish speaking lady who can not understand this canadian's accent, likewise she can not understand the spanish, so hence a call to me to see if I can find out what the heck to do! She can not get on the Internet. What pray tell is the solution?????

Any help would be most gratefully received. Thanks in Advance!

Have her go Start>Run>sfc.exe that will check her files to see if there corrupt or damaged it might fined that file and tell her to replace it with a new one. If it says to do that all she has to do is put her windows 98 cd in the cd drive select restore file and it will replace it with a new fresh copy.

sorry I forgot a few things, when she tells it to restore the file it will ask where to look. Have her click browse and under the windows cd look for a folder marked win98 and have it look for the file in there. On mine if i dont do that it will tell me it cant find the file.

When I ran sfc.exe it did pick up 1 corrupted file, and replaced it from the windows98 disk. However, afterwards, when you try to log onto the Internet, the same error occurs.!

Darn.

So I am re-issuing my plea for help. Anyone else have a suggestion that we could try?

I found the reason for the error and the solution to it.

It seems that the - Google Toolbar - causes the problem.

You just go to the Control Panel, then to Add/Remove programs, find the Google Tool Bar and remove it.

Presto, the problem disappears.
