VIA P4X266 USB problem

When the USB is enabled through BIOS the computer won't boot into winxp, it just hangs there. I've tried searching for a USB update for the board itself, but came up with no such luck. Was considering formatting but it's not really an option as this isn't my computer, I feel like winxp is just being stubborn for whatever reason. When disabled, however, the computer boots properly and everything is functional. What should I do?

Thanks in advance,
Kesh

When you enable it make sure nothing is connected to the USB ports. Some USB devices will cause XP to hang on a reboot or bootup. If plugged in after windows boots up they work fine. Dame that would be a real pain if it was a scanner or printer.

Hey thanks for the reply but unfortunately it didn't do the trick :( Unplugged everything (was amazed that something was plugged in) rebooted, went to BIOS enabled USB support, and bam froze before windows xp could initialize. This is the point AFTER you see the splash/loading screen abd BEFORE you are presented with the Welcome to Windows XP or login screen.

May be a corrupted driver. You could try doing a driver rollback, if XP will let you. Worst case scenario, it's a hardware problem with the motherboard. What happened that led up to this problem? Windows update, driver update, new usb device connected for the first time?
