Can't share files on WinMX

I'm a new Bellsouth Fast-Access DSL customer (2wks) after using a cable modem for several yrs. I use WinMX to share music files. I don't get as many results for download with dsl as I did with cable. That's ok. But I've also noticed that users can't upload from me at all. Uploads are timing out and not connecting at all. I have used the WinMX default 6699 incoming and 6257 outgoing ports. I've also changed them up within the 5001-65000 spectrum. Nothing seems to enable the UDP outgoing port to function as it did with the cable modem. As I won't be getting a cable modem for at least 1 yr (BellSouth service contract obligation) How can I open a suitable port? Can someone give me some suggestions for ports they have/are using that work? I'm not really trying to call Bellsouth and ask for what ports I can run up their dsl usage with! LOL :)

Thanks for all your help.

Your service doesnt change that, the amount is just getting less and less.

Do u have a firewall or is there one in the modem or maybe a router that needs a port forward?

What dsl modem model do you have? Are you using a LAN/WAN router?

Are you useing a primary connection or secondary connection for Winmx? I find that I get thousands more hits with the the Secondary connection.

lol I think every one has gotten copy written material at some point, becouse nobody realy regulates the internet. Its bouned to happen.

Not saying I agree with it. I'm just saying I don't think we can stop it. But I am very much for legal Filesharing.

Next time you start Win MX.

a. Go to setup tab and click

b. Stop the program for searching for best connection.

c. Manually setup connection

d. Port to TCP should be set to 8888

e. Port to UDP should be set to 9999

You will then have success in your file sharing.

Hope this helps
