My computer wont shutdown, it says windows is shutting down and hangs there. When i go into standbye mode it does so as normal and my power button flashes which its suppose to but when i power back on its rebooted.

this is second or third new install of xp that i get this problem, it works fora day or two then does it. my computer is only a month or so old, i have the latest bios, i tried 2 different graphics drivers..i cant tell if its hardware or software problem.

Do you have Roxio Easy CD Creator installed? This program causes many problems. There is a Roxio patch for this, but follow the instructions carefully.

Make sure the drivers for your hardware are the latest. Check the manufacturers' websites for the latest ones.

Make sure you have at least Service Pack 1 installed for XP. There was an issue with this that was corrected with SP1. In general though, make sure Windows is fully updated using Windows Update.

Latest nForce drivers for your motherboard? Including network card drivers if specific to your brand of nForce board?

Any additional network cards installed?

Current antivirus?

Not on a network where you have roaming profiles enabled, are you?
