Netbeui over TCPIP?

Hi Guys

Currently my wirless network (2 xp machines) works fine sharing net. I just wanted to ask something.

I have got them seeing each other via tcpip etc but they are using the TCPIP protocol. File and print sharing and client for MS networks are both checked.

What I heard is that its safer to share via NETBEUI over tcpip? Is this true? If so how do I get this to happen?

Thanks,

Tuz

You're mixing two things.

NetBEUI is a protocol...as is TCP/IP, or IPX. Present in all prior OS's, has to be manually added in XP and Server 2003.

There is a setting in TCP/IP which is called "Netbios over TCP/IP"...has to do with how Windows uses TCP for name resolution.

If you have a router running NAT, you don't need to worry. (unless you DMZ a computer of for some reason forward an insane range of ports) If you have no firewall and both computers have public IP addresses, then I'd worry, yes using NetBEUI would be safer but you'd still be in danger and I'd say get behind a NAT router.
