Sempron?

Post by wee96 »

Anyone got one? Curious to know how you like it, im thinking of upgrading the wifes computer soon (just mb and cpu) and have been sliding towards the Sempron although if someone can give me a good comparasion with the Celeron as far as video editing/compressing benchmarks (she needs whatever will work faster in this way, as its all she does on that computer really is Adobe Photohop/Premiere/After Effects/PSP/etc.). I havent found any celeron match the semperon as far as price to performance ratio, and im sure the p4 pricing would be even worse (as you can see I havent been into Intel for years now, most of the models I dont even know about). Any input is appreciated.

ouch get her a athlon, or an older P4C, somethign that can really handle that adobe line.

Do u have a budget?

I would think the sempron would be better than the celly. My opinion of the cellys is the same of Cellery.

not sure your budget, but look into a 64bit something AMD if you can, just last nite i did a comparison useing TMPGEnc to encode a 1 hour xvid avi to mpeg2 for a dvd, used my 3500+ @ stock speed of 2.2Ghz, vs my xp2400@ 2.2Ghz.

the 3500+ was about 15 minutes faster,45 minutes vs alittle over 1 hour, not sure how fast a P-4 would do it as i don't own one.

Yea the Athlon64 is a possibility, but im on a strict budget and between the two "budget" cpu's was really what I was curious about (celeron vs. sempron). I'm pretty sure the sempron knocks the celeron out in almost every catagory, especially price haha. I dont know anything about celerons though, do any of them support hyperthreading? Is this something that would make a difference with Adobe products (do they have support for this extension I mean). Thanks for the replies.

Im probably gonna upgrade myself rather than her, and just give her my current cpu/mobo (xp 2100@2.1ghz, 100% stable) itll be more than enough for her and ill have a 64 bit cpu :D Anyone know which A64's overclock the best?

I hear the 3500 is pretty good for that, but I don't OC. Best place site to check out right now is Planetamd64

I'm happy with my 2 (soon to be 3) AMD64 3200's at stock.
