how late should a 12 year old be able to stay out?
how late should a 12 year old be able to stay out?
I know what we do as parents,
but I just wanted some other opinions,
my son is 12,he gets decent grades,
considering his homework is already done,
( school nights are sun - thurs nights,)
what is a fair time to let him stay over at his friends house or out with his friends in the neighborhood riding bikes or playing basketball, etc, etc.

I used to have to be home when the street lights came on. During the summer, the days are longer and no school, so I could stay out later. During the Winter/Fall, days are shorter and had school, so I had to get in earlier.
I forget what age that rule didn't apply anymore, But when the street lights came on, there was no excuse for not having a watch or clock nearby when I was outside.
Of course, I always pushed that rule a bit by coming home late.

Hi Dan
I was brought up with The Streetlights & brought my Kids up with the same Rules. Most of the Parents on the block went by those Rules and when the lights came on all you saw were asses heading Home. We didn't fight it as we knew our weekends would then be in jeopardy.
On some occasions if they asked to stay at a friends for whatever reason this was okay-ed by the Parents of the kid in question and an extra hour or 2 was permitted. During the week this was rare. Weekends generally where the rule their.

Until I was 17 and was able to drive my car, I was home by sundown, fed and in bed by 8pm and 9pm Friday & Saturday nights unless there was something special on.
