<i'm 15, excuse any slang>

My computer's cable was working fine until about a week ago. I've had it for about a month of problem free service and then without any settings changing or such, it just sort of started dying.
A week ago i turned it on and it wouldn't work. I turned on my other computer to see if the cable company was down, but it worked fine on that comp. But when i returned to my computer, i noticed that NOW it was online. I figured out that my computer's cable would only work once this other computers cable was online.
Then yesterday the whole thing just died on me. It don't connect, use AIM, anything.

Ok, here's the part where i tell you stuff so u don't have to ask ANNOYING questions like "is it really hooked up? really tight? are you sure?" (quote RR service tech)

I'm using RoadRunner with one of them NetWork Everywhere network cards in the LinkSys Network starter kit and a surfboard 1400 modem. It WAS connected to a router, but i tried connecting it DIRECTLY to the comp from the modem, no luck. I've connected W/O my firewall on.
+ little sidenote: If i look on the back of the computer (you know, where i plug the cable into), there is this little green light that blinks. I'm not talking about the SurfBoard modem, i'm talking about the ethernet card. I'm suspecting this is just to show when information is being sent and recieved. It's supposed to blink right? and my blink i don't mean one second on, one second off one second on...., it's mostly always on, then it'll turn off for like 2 nanoseconds, then it's come back on.

In some areas, RR provisions the MAC adress of the NIC, so if you changed your NIC since the installation of your service, that may be the problem.

Look, you're the one seeking help. At over 4,500 posts, I can't possibly keep track of who I replied to and what I stated, especially when the poster reposts b/c they didn't read what they wanted to read. Thus, I'm sorry if I already replied to one of your posts and wasn't able to help.

Then you need to call your ISP's customer service and you can be rude to them instead of the longtime members of this board. 15 years old is no excuse for rudeness.

Did you even consider that the reason why the suggested advice may appear more than once is simply because it may be the answer to somebody else's problem? Hell, how do you know that that's NOT the problem? You expect us to believe you know what your talking about when you admit to blindly guessing what the blinking light on the NIC card indicates?
So, how EXACTLY did you diagnose that your modem/NIC/cables/ground/router etc. were in perfect working order? Just because they were working before means they'll keep working, eh? Your lease expire or did you even attempt to renew it? (Hell if I'm going to tell you how to do it since you must know how after the brilliant diagnostic job you did earlier on the NIC...) Other than checking if its blinking, how else did you diagnose the card? BTW, blinking lights don't mean crap but of course you knew that. Right. Sure.
Did you swap the NIC? You sure your network is fine? Virus scan? You aren't using the same IP for more than 1 PC are you? I know from personal experience that to use multiple PC's on the same SD RR line without obtaining another IP address reqires a workaround or just paying RR for an additional address since you are only allocated 1 unless you pay for more. Are SD RR's IP's static or dynamic?
RR in San Diego is always blinking out every so often. If it goes out more than you like, then feel free to have RR's own tech support to fix it for you and get credited for your downtime. They can't refuse to investigate a legitimate customer complaint, I'd think.
You get Cable internet and are actually surprised by an interruption of service?
Cox@Home goes down every so often in San Diego so spotty cable internet service is not an unexpected event. Why should you have any special reason for losing your connection?
I know... Did Mommy and Daddy not pay the cable bill on time this month?!?
Go ahead and flame if you want but see if anybody else deigns to give you any better help here...
