during my boot up, before msn messenger starts, I have a minute lag before my PPPoE will kick in and dial up my dsl connection

. can anyone help me out with this one?? Thanx!

Assign an IP address like 192.0.0.1 with a default subnetmask to your Local Area Network Connection. Leave your DSL Connection(You will see WAN Miniport PPPoE) settings alone. Your getting this lag because your pc is trying to obtain an IP address through that LAN connection and is not finding the DHCP.

Thanks for the help Glears, the subnetmask is currently set to 255.255.0.0 and I don't know how to change it. Forgive me, I'm not computer illiterate, but I don't see a place where I can edit my ip addresses.

Check out the pic's below.

Step 1, Open up your Network Connections. You should see this:

Step 2, right click on Local Area Connections and select "Properties". You will see this window:

Step 3, Select "Internet Protocal (TCP/IP)" and click on Properties. You will get this windows.

Step 4, Select "Use the following IP Address" and fill the fields like the picture above.

Are you using Windows XP's built in PPPoE support, or some 3rd party like SBC's Connection Manager?

OMG! my messenger loaded right up, there was no lag! I knew that it was looking for something it couldn't but I didn't know how to correct the problem and it was so

right!
