Anyone own a PT Cruiser?
I have to get a new car, and a decently-loaded 2005 PT Cruiser fits right into my budget range. Granted, it's far from my number one choice for a brand new car, but I have money to think about. I know a few people who own them and they think they're great, but I thought I'd ask here. I don't need power or crazy feaure packages, and the PT Cruiser seems a good deal.

I heard that the PT Cruiser transmission is a POS. I also have a friend who used to own a PT Cruiser and had over 7 transmission leaks which were fixed my Chrysler and still leaked... she sold the car.
I would go with a Honda Accord over a PT Cruiser any day just because of reliability. I don't know, don't feel like typing...

Oftentimes a well kept used car is a better investment...
New cars depreciate hard and fast, why not let someone else take the hit...
I don't know if you know anyone or if you are familiar with auctions... Sales of repo's, drug confiscations, etc...
Do you have access to Consumer Reports? They have some awesome info on reliability, safety, etc... Let me know if I can look up something for you.

All in good fun, as usual...

Personally I like them. As far as transmissions go, Ford actually has the worst history of failed transmissions, this is a proven fact. Aftermarket Technology Corp, where I used to work handled all of the transmission warranties for Ford, in '02 or '03 nearly 90% of that year models F-150 had a tranny failure.
I say go for it. It is essentially a neon with a different body and neon's within the last year or two have been substanially improved.

Comparing the PTC to a Neon is NOT a compliment.fastchevy wrote:Personally I like them. As far as transmissions go, Ford actually has the worst history of failed transmissions, this is a proven fact. Have you looked at the Toyota Matrix? It is in that range, and we have been delighted with ours. Many positives, including a 120vac outlet. Two negatives - the rear view mirrors are rigidly mounted - it's a $200 oh, bleep if you snag one. It also is not very suited to short people - rear visibility around/past the headrests is shaky.
Nice cargo capacity - we get two bicycles in it easily.

I sell repo'd cars daily. My 2 cents worth...look for an import VW, Honda, Toyota ..they will hold their resale value better than anything domestic(with the exception of a 4x4).. Don't buy new because you will take the hit on the depreciation as opposed to someone else taking it. Compare warranties and options etc... stuff you already know.. and for the love of God do not forget to check multiple dealers/sellers and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. I'm online with NADA so if you need a car value lemme know and i'll check the retail/wholesale value.Ken wrote:Oftentimes a well kept used car is a better investment...

Ive never heard such a silly thing.
Ford has the worst transmissions?
Now Dodge's trannys on the other hand, those are about as strong as a strand of hair.
Pain is weakness leaving the body.

PT's are all right
Everyone I have talked to with one is happy with them.
Just don't put one of them stupid Flame Sticker kits on it.
Cooler then a minivan
With the back seats down, enuff romm to tear off a piece in there.
Good on gas, and with a nice set of rims and tires they look pretty darn good, better then a camery.
And the custom world iis an open canvas
The Toy Matrix is pretty nice also, looked at them when I was shopping, if I hadn't bought the Ranger, the Matrix was high on my list.
Stay away from volkswagon, they will run for ever but nickle and dime you to death with chit breaking or falling off.
Honda
Toyo's
I have always had good luck with my Fords
KIA
Hyundia, they aint lookin bad
