Network Server Setup Help?

Hi,

I want to setup a server for e-mail & database for nearly 40 computers for my company & need the guideness in this regard.

What OS should be there for server & e-mail & database server software u suggest for a single person IT dept. of the company.

Awaiting helpful guideness as always.

The ideal setup for Microsofts Small Business Server 2003. They have two versions, "Standard" which is basically just the Server, and Exchange (e-mail), for up to 50 users, and "Premium"...which adds SQL database server, ISA firewall, and up to 75 users.

Some other little things in there too, Sharepoint server, shared fax from desktop, etc.

I agree with the previous post - SBS 2003 is the dogs bollox for small business stuff.
There's plenty of support available in the newsgroups too.

What's your budget? If you don't have much to spend, how literate are you with server operating systems?

You could deploy a Linux solution FREE with Email, Collaboration tools, and Web capabilities. You just need to know how to use Linux :)

Yes, I know you're not going to deploy Linux on the destkop, but you don't really need to. You could still deploy Windows across the board to your users and employ something like SAMBA on your server. Plus, the capabilities are endless for end user email clients. It really all depends on how much you have to spend, how much time you have to learn about what you're deploying and how much support you are prepared to need on the back end of things.
