Due to one of my 80 gb's recent visit to hard drive heaven...I'm only on my 2 x 36 gb scsi's. Shopping around now and will at least get 3 x 250 gb SATA's and a nice new shiny Hardware based SATA raid card that supports RAID 5.

Actually I'm only using about 20 gigs of my total 192 gigabytes. Most of which is Windows + Games + Music + Saved Game Patches.

small in comparison, but I don't store any music or videos,
80gig partitioned into 2 40 gig dual boot XP/WIN2K
40 gig storage/backup
20 gig backup
128 mb thumb driver daily small backups

I have 7 pc's here,so there is a few more drives I use for various storage and backup use as well.

which is small really too,
3 20 gig
1 10 gig
and a couple tiny drives for folding boxes.

2 - 160 GB's (1 is external)
1 - 40 GB
1 - 6.4 GB

the 40 GB is for music production...then one of the 160's has all my mp3 and couple games, plus winXP, still has like 30 GB free...then the external 160 is still new...so it's slowly filling up with more MP3's and now some movies, plus whatever else :D
then the 6.4 is my boot drive for my old IBM computer.

120gig sata
160gig ata
200gig ata

160gig external firewire
40gig external laptop

I'm currently in the market for another 18gig scsi. something cheap, just to run games off of. I'm expecting to pay less then $30 for a 10k 68pin scsi HD.

Main gaming rig....only a 36 gig WD Raptor drive. Partitioned 60/40 split, plenty of room for me.

SBS Server, pair of 40 gig drives...and that's it for my storage needs. A few other rigs on the home LAN, but none sharing out for storage.

I'll Break it down, this is what I Have Now:

Server:

Primary Drive = 40GB = OS and Applications for the Server
Review Drive = 80GB = All the stuff I use for Reviews (almost full)
Junk Drive = 80GB = Basically anything here, applications, pictures, anything (about 10GB left)
Audio Drive = 80GB = All Things Audio (almost full)
Video Drive = 80GB = All Things Video (over full, had to spill stuff over to another drive)
Extra Space Drive = 80GB = Spill Over for Video Stuff as well as all my Ghost Images I use for Reviews

Primary System:

Primary Drive = 74GB Raptor = OS and System Files
Secondary Drive = 200GB = Applications and Games Installations

LANNING System:

Primary Drive = 120GB = OS and Games / Applications Installed as well as space for stuff downloaded at LAN's
Secondary Drive = 200GB = Space for stuff downloaded at LAN's

What I want ultimately:

Server:

Primary Drive = 74GB Raptor = OS and Applications
Secondary Drive = 74GB Raptor = All my Ghost Images
Review Drive = 400GB = All my stuff for Reviews (plenty of space to expand)
Junk Drive = 400GB = Anything Else (plenty of room)
Audio Drive = 400GB = All Audio (plenty of room)
Video Drive = 400GB = All Video (plenty of room for now)
(Maybe another Extra Space 400GB Drive if I need it)

LANNING Computer:

Primary Drive = 400GB = OS / Games / Applications and space for stuff at LAN's
Secondary Drive = 400GB = Stuff at LAN's

I think that would do nicely

very nice.

just curious why you'd use the raptor for ghosted images though? wouldn't that be overkill?

why do people assume that large amounts of HD space must be for questionable activities? I'm running over 750gigs myself. It's amazing how fast that'll fill up with video and archiving data.

my ghost images i use are large, 30-40GB for one, i have 2 of those and then another smaller one that is a bare OS install

it use to take over an hour when i had a 100mbps network, now that i have a 1gbps network it takes 40 minutes, i'm limited simply by the speed at which the hard drives can sustain a transfer, my review system has a raptor, but my server doesn't, it's slowing the sustainable transfer speed down, so i'll put a raptor on it just for the ghost images so i can get the highest sustainable transfer rates, thus faster ghosting

yes, SCSI would be faster, obviously, however, its out of my price range, and i don't have a 64bit PCI slot to take full advantage of it anyways, so a SATA150 Raptor will do
