I have AOL, ADSL. I got it 4 moths ago(by verizon). It's the biggest peace of trash! It worked fine fo 2 months. I tweaked it and all i got was 60k/sec. thats when it was still good. then after 2 months it suddenly became really really bad. The ping went to 1500, and when I download stuff it goes at 10k/sec. Thats sick. I tryed re-tweaking it and still nothing. IT SUX! Anyways now I orderd Road Runner, and it's coming on Friday 2/9/01. Many people I've asked that havn't tweaked they're cables say they get 60-70k/sec. All of those who did say they get 200k/sec. Well anyways I wanted to know if maybe one of you guys can tell me how to tweak it with the best tweaks and to change the registrys to the max! I want to get the MAX and MOST out of my cable. like 200 or 300k also. Now the only problem is im kinda new to tweaking and all this stuff. Well im just new to computers, I just got my comp 6 months ago, so i really dont know much. I would appreciate it if someone out there who has tweaked they're cable and got the most out of it can please tell me step by step instructions on how to tweak my cable modem and how to change the registry ETC... anything needed to make it FASTEST! I tryed reading up on what it says on this site but i cant seem to understand anything they say. like tcp/ip/gedfa/sdasda/fdgfg/jg etc... lol.
So im thanking ahead of time any of those who are willing to help me and anyone else who might have a similar problem. THANX!

P.S. Oh and if you know any good sites that have step by step tutorials to help me then thanx again.

Hey man.. Since U are new to tweaking, I suggest U go to http://www.cablenut.com and from the dropdown menu select download(i think)... and d/l the software for cablemodem... It works great...

Also try the speedguide patch for cablemodem and DSL.. which can be found here... http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml

I'd back up your registry before you do any tweaking, just in case

Thanx alot everyone, but as I said im really new to this stuff, so i would appreciate it if you could tell me what is a registry, how do i find it, and to back it up all i got to do is make a copy and paste it somewhere else right?

Here follow these instructions:
First bring up REGEDIT, look in Windows file or I believe you can just type REGEDIT in your run box and hit OK.
Under Registry at the top of the box, click on that, now click on Export Registry File, a box will come up asking where you want to export it to, just put it in your C drive, then name it at the bottem of box, Registry.
Click on save.
Now if you ever get in trouble or want the old regestry back, bring REGEDIT back up and click on Registry and click on import registry file, go to your C drive and click on registry and click open, reboot and your good to go.
1. You probaly need to PRINT these instructions!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to main page on Speedguide, go to patch page (Listed on left)
2. Download the faster loading of webpages for your OS, download the speedpatch for your OS, becarefull, there are alot of patches on this page.
3. Download the back to default patch for your OS, do not install this patch, just download it in case you ever want to change patches.
4. You may need 1 more patch if you are running WIN 95,98 or 98SE we will know after test.
5. Go to www.dslreports.com/tools bookmark this page as you may wish to return. Run Online tweak tester, check the verbose box, turn off firewalls, if you have one, copy the results by highlighing everything in the box with your mouse, then hit Ctrl & c, with your key board, come back to Speedguide and in same post you were in reply, when box comes up , cursor blinking at start of box hit Ctrl & v, this will copy results in box so I may look at them.
7. I do not recommend adding any other patches, all these tests change by the minute so don't be fooled an start adding patch after patch.
8. The best time to test for speed is early in the morning when no one (or not many) people are on the net.
9. Nothing should be running during any test, no virus stuff, firewalls,
and always clear (Delete, no this will not harm your system) your temp internet files before each test, not once during testing, after each test.
10. Do not add other speed patches on top of each other, always go back to default before trying another patch, I am aware of only one patch that will remove previous patch without having to return to default.
11. In the future, here are some other sites you may wish to visit, go to www.testmyspeed.com. Please bookmark that page as well as www.pcpitstop.com so you may return. Also another good dowload site would be www.happypuppy.com click on 10 demos and a large download file, do not download the whole file, just most of it.
12. You may in the future wish to go to www.AnalogX.com and download Net Stat Live, run this while downloading a large file.
13. Please take your time and good luck. I would suggest at least 128 RAM and read up on all this, but be care full.
14. The most accurate way of testing speed is downloading large file as explained above from somewhere like www.happypuppy.com (not all of it, just most of it). All other speed test sites will vary.

Registy is where all the information about ur computer exists. It has the info about all the softwares and hardwares U have installed. U can say.. It's like a source code for Windows... by means that U can change all kinds of default settings in windows. Pobably LOBO is more experienced in that area... U better ask him for Xplanation.. THis is as far as I know..

Here's how U bakup registry..
1. Click "START" and click "Run".
2. type "regedit" (without the quotation)
in the available space and press OK.
3. Once the Registry Editor window pops up..
select "Registry" from the menu bar, its
the first one.
4. Select "Export Registry File" from the
drop down list.
5. A window will popup.... U have to select
"All" button from the export range...
6. Select where U want to save the registry.
7. Click save.
8. VOILA...U Just Baked Up U'r Registry..
