Ok, my Dell 8200 has been through hell and back. the screen is fine, but the hinge where the connection is must have finally worn to the point where I now get a vertical line running down the entire length of the screen on the very left side edge. It's more of an annoyance than anything....

How do I know it's the internal wiring connection? Because depending how I tilt the lid, the line either comes or goes. Maybe something is loose which I doubt...I think the ribbon has been crimped or pierced or whatever just due to normal wear and tear. So being that the computer and LCD itself is fine, how should I go about trying to get this fixed?

I'm outta warranty because it's over 3 years old now.

Cheapest way I can think of, is find the same model on eBay for cheap. Great source of spare parts, because purchasing that part from Dell spare parts...probably cost almost as much as buying a new laptop.

You can try spare parts but it's still going to be expensive. Do like cat said and try to find one on ebay.

Find a cheapo CRT/flatpanel....cuz that ribbon is gonna let go entirely soon.

very easy to replace. I've replaced a laptop lcd before and it was a piece of cake.

as mentioned, pick it up on ebay and replace ASAP.

Yeah, they're simple to replace, it's pretty much just 2 screws. Here's the guide for it.

Can anyone recommend me a good place to find replacement LCDs for an ASUS laptop? I shattered my 15 inch.
