I do... celebs and musicians make to much money anyhow...
But.. then there is the moral issue.. err damn voices

If you are not doing it to make money and only for your personal use, there shouldn't be a problem. Do you need to buy 2 copies of everything so that you can listen to it while driving? Or buy 2 copies of DVDs so that your kids can watch their cartoons in the car?
Sorry, when you bought it, you bought the right to use it for your personal entertainment. Making a copy to take with you is still within that right as far as I am concern.
Like I said, if you are not making copies for financial gain, you should be able to make copies for your personal use.

I totally agree with goobee. Sometimes I want a song collections instead of listening to the same people singing for like 70mins straight. So, as long as I am not selling it, I can do whatever I want with my blank CDs.

Damn, so on moral grounds I'd better remove WinMX from my program list, along with all the music already collected and resist the temptation to d'load any more.

Back ups may become illegal at some point.
I have back ups of approximatly 250 CD's, these original CD's were stolen, this now makes my back up illegal as I no longer have proof of ownership.
So I could now be fined and have equipment confiscated on top of having my collection stolen if I lived anywhere but Canada under current laws, nice huh?

I'll start buying computer games consistently, when they're consistently worth their money. If I play a game long enough for it to be worth the price, I buy it. Hardly ever happens though, at least 95% of all games put out are total crap IMO. I see downloading of selected things as "try before you buy" opportunity, because seriously, with this much crap out there on digital media, you need to.
As for movies... I think it's more convenient to just rent the DVD from the video store around the corner than to download them. Instant high quality movie satisfaction for a reasonable fee. See... now if I could download the music that I like legally for a reasonable price (up to 10 bucks for an album), you could bet your butt that I'd be doing it. It's just that's much more of a hassle for me to get those CDs that I want from legal source than to download it. So I grab it off the web, and buy those albums I liked and listened to a lot at a metal festival.
It's not that I want to pirate the stuff, but that I find myself in a situation where it's either impossible to get what I want without trying (games), or that it's a major hassle to get what I want (music).

Well if it means 50 cd's into one mp3 disk for the car then yes it's fine by me.

Making a backup copy of the original for personal use is fine. Making a copy and selling it to friends is not.
