picked up a new processor, thoughts?

needed a p4 processor for a computer I'm building. figured I'd put the 2.4c into her rig and keep this for myself.
worthy upgrade?

that's my upgrade strategy too
nice buy and great cpu...should make u a whole lotta happy
not sure how well they o/c with the added cache but my 3.0c reaches 3.6 ghz without trying real hard

The prescotts do NOT overclock well, as they put out a ridiculous amount of heat. Sorry, but unless you have some liquid nitrogen on hand, you will most likely not be able to overclock it.
Also, spring for a REALLY big heatsink, like the SP-97. Trust me, you'll need it.

They do seem to overclock ok, but not so welkl on the pcie mobos cuz u cant lock the agp/pci even tho the option is in teh bios.
I do believe the prescott has a alonger pipeline, not happy about that.

They seems to oc just fine. You are really exgerating with the LN2.

Although the liquid N2 was pure hyperbole, my fellow nerds have told me that the prescott is not nearly as good as the northwood at overclocking. Of course, this was the guy who uses a stock heatsink for overclocking...
The SP-97 is still a very good heatsink, though. Unless you want to watercool (Swiftech MCW6002 can't be beat) this is most likely the best cooler on the market, and at about 45 bucks, it's not horribly expensive either. Just remember to put on a very fast 92mm fan, as the prescotts put out a great deal of heat.

If you read some reviews it will show what the prescott can OC to.

People are saying Prescotts don't OC well because of the "ridiculous" amount of heat they put off. Just get a good aftermarker HSF and you'll be fine. 2.8E's are hitting 3.5 fairly easy on air.

Maybe so. The 2004 Dream Machine in Maximum PC was a 3.6E running at 4.0.

Prescotts don't overclock as well compare to Northwood... but that was the same when Tbred first came out. It couldn't overclock that well. People seem to put too much emphasis on the heat issue...
Rememeber, not too long ago hitting 20Hz faster on FSB without changing multi was considered super overclocking....(133Hz FSB). Oh the good old days.
