My friend and I both play Warcraft 3.

We can connect to Battlenet fine and can join in other people's games fine. This is while our routers are connected.

When I try to host he cant connect to me. Gets a game not found error. Same for when I try to connect to him.

When I remove my router I can host a game and he can connect fine. I still cant connect to him hosting a game though.

When I attempt to play my son (both of us are on the same router) neither of us can connect to the other. We have both tried hosting.

So I believe the problems are in 1 if not both of our routers and mine is causing at least part of the problem.

Firewalls are off. both are linksys. Mine is wireless capable but I use cables. He uses wireless option.

Neither of use really have a lot of knowledge of routers and see nothing that glares at us when we go into the router setup.

I believe the issue is port forwarding on one if not both of the routers but would like some expert guidance before I go in and fiddle with things of which I have no knowledge.

I would just be content to have my router set up so he can connect and my son can connect.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

you may have to forward some ports that WC3 uses....

U need to forward ports 6112 and 6113 TCP and UDP

Can someone explain exactly how to do this? I know that it may be a bit different for each router but as much as you can help I would appreciate it. I am not router smart.

Which ports do I forward 6112-6113 to?

I connect using port 6115 as the lag I was getting on 6112 was bad (though may have cleared up since I got a different cable modem which did clear up the bad lag I was getting).

Do you and your son have different Warcraft 3 cd-keys? I don't think both of you can connect to a battle.net game with the same cd-key but lan should be okay. Also both of your ports should be different ie. 6115 for you 6116 for him. Well this is my setting for Warcraft 3 and it works fine.

Yes we have different CD keys. I didnt know about our ports needing to be differnet. I will check that. thanks.

I use an Edimax router and it asks for a private IP for the port that I'm fowarding... is it my IP, which one and if not one of mine then is is warcrafts and how do I find that one out? I tried to put in 192.168.1.0 but it said the 0 has to be a number inbetween 1-254

you need to forward it to your IP address. I would suggest setting up your computer with a static IP just in case it changes for some reason. Warcraft uses port 6112 TCP/UDP. If you are both on the same network all you need to do is forward the 6112 not both unless both of you are hosting games at the same time. If you are both hosting at the same time you need to forward the port 6113 to the other computer. I think you also have to change the port you use to 6113(on the second PC) in warcrafts settings.

ok... so I have a static IP and I tried to set up port fowarding for warcraft but I still cant host a game and have people join it

If you are still experiencing this problem, it may not be your router at all. If you and your friend/son play over LAN, then it may be that you are not in the same workgroup. To find out if this is true go to My Network Places>WorkGroup Computers. You should be able to see each other's comp. names (i.e. My Laptop or G.W's Comp) or at least one of you see the other.
If you are not in the same workgroup, then choose setup a home or small office network. Follow the Instructions, then devise a network name. Have your friend/son type in the name of the network too. You may need to restart your comp. at this point.

Once you have restarted you computer, go back to Workgroup computers. If you can see each other, it was a success. If not, then it is not this that is your problem. -With all due respect,

I found that Windows XP firewall can also interfere with hosting games. After fixing my router ports I still couldn't host, but after turning off the firewall I was able to. Probably not wise to always leave it off, unless comfortable with router as firewall, but can turn it off to host.
