What is the addy to my MySQL database server?

I can't figure this out.
I have my own server (ipaska) and I have created my database on it. Created a user/pw and all that but I don't know what the address is.
I'm trying to install some software on it and it asks me for the address to the MySQL server database.
Would it be something like:
http://www.universeofdiscourse.org/????/????/???
I don't know the correct syntax that it needs.

yes, I would believe so, however, you may also try to use the IP of it ...
192.168.0.1/root/ ....

Look, here is the deal, I'm trying to setup F@H stats for everybody here. I have an ipaska webserver. I have FTP access to it as well as their own cpanel but that's it. I can do everything I need to but because I'm going through their own frontend for administering the server....I don't know what the REAL url's are. you know how when you look at phpmyadmin...it's usually like localhost/myadmin.php blah blah blah....well everything here on this cpanel is proceeded by soemthing else. I don't know how to ****ing explain it........this sucks

don't you have a remote connection tool you can use? if so just connect that way and go in ...
where are the big networking peeps at that would know all about this stuff ...

So what do I put in there? I have no idea what the location of the server is....
this will all be on the server or on your machine? if it is on the server then it will be just a local directory from there ...
if you are trying to connect to it remotely then, I would suggest using the ip and then the path ... however, I am not sure what directory you have it in or if you are allowing external applications to access it. (apps that aren't on the machine, as in coming from an external IP
)

let's make this real simple...I'll give you my user name and pw and you can go in there and look around all you want. I have no ide where they keep the MySQL databases...they are there...but there is nothing that tells me where. It's like looking at a folder's properties without any info.

And what does this mean?

It says in the help file to make that file (dba.php) writeable. When I went in and checked it's properties...it said it was writable. Or am I doing it wrong?

chmod 767 I think that is right .. read, not write, execute ...

I just took a look in there and I don't see the ability to make the change without going into the edit ... which I did not want to do in case you may have been in there looking around or something ... I didn't want to F anything up for ya
check yer PM's in regards to the path and see if that helps you any ... I am not fond of DB's on machines off in la la land that I can not log into like a workstation ... if you have that kind of rcon access it would be a lot better ... cpanel kinda sux for this, and the knowledge base is terrible ...
I would even suggest since it is just data (prolly like no stream at all) hosting the DB on your local machine and pointing the page to query from it ...

See, I don't want to host anything on my own machine for obvious reasons. If my machine is off....nobody gets their stats. I just can't believe that this is that difficult. I use Foxserv on a server at work to serve up a forum for work related crap. So I know how to set up everything and the paths are simple....but because this on on a remote host...I have no idea how to do it.
Thanks for the help though. Please erase pw from memory lol.

already happened
it would probably be easy to contact the host company via email and they can tell you exactly what path you need to use ...
JCOS or someone may be familiar enough with doing this to tell you exactly what you need .... mine is a little different ... so I can't tell you exactly

what was that for?
I think in about a month ... I will have time to start putting up a web server at home ... I am gonna start out with a desktop rig set up for it then maybe after I see how it all goes I may upgrade the bandwidth and the rig ... if and when I start I will help you with the DB and even though my IP will change I already have a fix for that ...
I am really diggin my heels into .NET programming (I have to ... it is my job now) and I am a web developer in .NET now so .... all in good time my friends ... all in good time ...
if anyone can find out how to pull from the stanford database that would be a huge help ....

Well...it was a way to put your stats in your sig without using a img file. It was all PHP code which would work in a forum like this where the rules say you can't have an img sig.

You would problably have to tie your database into the txt file located at:
http://vspx27.stanford.edu/teamstats/team15.txt
It is in tab seperated format.
If you already new this, I appoligize.

no idea if you've solved your database problem, but i'm running apache/mysql at home on a windows 2000 server with a number of databases, and you should probably be using LOCALHOST or 127.0.0.1 for yoru server address.
here's a snippet from one of my php files (i work almost exclusively with php)
$link = mysql_connect("localhost","myuser","myuserpassword") or die ("Could not connect");
and you should probably creater a user with limited access to that one database so as to secure any others you have (eg never use a root user)

I live in NJ...no telling what state or country the server is actually in....so localhost is not even on my radar.
I know how to setup a server and all that...if I own and operate the hardware myself. I use Foxserv actually...all in one solution with apache, php, and mysql.
I don't have the bandwidth to run this script from my home machine or else I would. So I thought it would have been easy to put it on my webhost. Guess not.

Wanna use a web page to be able to use straing mysql commands in a textarea? This way you can issue ANY sql command statement. Save this code as sql_cmd.php and put it in a passworded directory and use it to do whatever you want with mysql. (SELECT, ALTER, DROP, CREATE, etc etc etc)

depending on how heavy your access is i could potentialy help, however remotely possible. i've serve a few GB of stuff a month from home with few complaints, but the connection is 6M/512K so i dunno if it's fast enough. it seems like you're going for the casual FAH stats for just SG?
ISPs up here don't tend to complain about heavy bandwidth as i hosted a few WMVs for somebody's livejournal and transferred about 4GB in a ten hour span.
