I checked the status on my cable connection and mine read 10mbps? its not a wireless card either and it used to say 100mbps? what could be causing this?

your duplex mode click on read 1st below me it wil show you how to change it to 10 half but the steps are the same for a 100 full.

i set it to 10 half and it still says 10mbps in the status and im going through a router

If you set it to 10base speeds...then indeed it will/should say 10.

Now if it was running at 100, and it's now reading 10, and it is or was set to "auto"...then something is preventing auto-negotiating from obtaining the higher speed of 100. We can assume that the router you are plugged into has a 10/100 base hub or switch, and also assume that it is also "auto". What could be causing it to not negotiate and settle at 100? Lots of things. Poor cable quality. A NIC that is beginning to fail. A port on the router that is beginning to fail. The network cable, or router itself, is located too close to something that is giving off strong EMI and causing the signal in the cable to deteriorate (such as a subwoofer, flourescent light fixture, etc)

In all reality, having it run at only 10base speeds will not impact your internet performance, as 10megs is still multiple times faster than your broadband connection anyways, which is most likely 1.5 megs at best. But it's the curiosity that would get me, if it used to run at 100, and suddenly dropped to 10 for some reason.

If its not a router problem, driver problem maybe?
