THE Definitive Defragmenter??

anyone???

Tried the Windows one, seemed OK, then stumbled accross Executives Diskeeper which said it was better, now I`ve come accross PerfectDisk and that say`s it`s better again but none of these seem to be able to shift a huge chunk of fragmented stuff from near the end of my D: drive (IBM 180GB with 25.6GB free) oh, and diskeeper counteracts what perfectdisk does and vice versa

I defragged my C: drive (Maxtor 30GB with 20.7GB free) with diskeeper and it went quick and was done, I did the same with perfectdisk and that showed me all kinds of fragmentation straight after the first pass with diskeeper.

So, I give up!! unless someone can suggest a good relatively quick defragger that works??

Thanx

Al

I prefer Perfect Disk. Right click the in the PD GUI and tick aggressive free space consolidation and tick all options in off-line defrag minus on every boot. You can't go wrong with that. :D

I use Diskeeper 8 Pro. I like the smart scheduling, set it and forget it feature. I have it set to defrag my drives at night when I'm not using the PC. If I do pull a late nighter it will stop and wait for the PC to be idle again.

Vopt is another good one.30 day free trial-

I like some of the extra options too.It puts the swap file at the outer edge of disc if ya like.It is fast also, but of course, the faster your system the faster it can work.http://www.vopt.com/VoptXP.htm :)

It'd be faster if the swapfile was on the INNER edge of the disk.

I have the Pro version of both and I prefer PD hands down. It's aggressive free space consolidation alone puts it beyond the competition. :thumb:

Well I was gonna put it in SW but it was also to do with hardware so I just bit the bullet.

You can get PDv6 free for 30 days here Also, if you`re into that sorta stuff, you could probably find a way round the 30 day trial thing like buy it :thumb:
