Is Being Married for 4 years a long time these days :(

I am saddened, what happened to marriage, it no longer is what it use to be.

Today I was at the store, the people in front of me were talking to the cashier, it came up that the cashier was married, the women asked the cashier how long they had been married, she said 4 years, to which the women replied, "wow, that's a long time".

WTF? Is being married for 4 years a long time these days?

:(

Nobody listens to me :(

"Morality? Who needs morality?. Monogamy? Monogamy is just cutting down your options. Marriage? Why should marriage be binding?"

It's a sorry state of affairs. The worst part is that no matter how well I bring up my kids, societies pressures are overwhelmingly pointing in the opposite direction and I'm almost certainly not going to win. 6 billion to 2 are fairly overwhelming odds.

"Til death do us part" has no meaning these days

I don't know if i'll ever get married, but if I do, I plan to uphold the vows, and actually stay married Til death do us part like you are supposed to.

People now it seems, get married and divorced like it's a normal thing, like getting a new car...when you are unhappy, just trade in for a new model :(

Well Brighten Up Brent!

The Ball and Chain and I just celebrated our 24th anniversary yesterday, so marriage can be a workable thing. It's not always easy and we've had our rough spots, but we've seen them through. :)

yeah, when my wife and I tell people (especially young people) that we've been married for nearly 13 years they look at us like we're from Mars or something :rotfl:
I told my wife I guess we aren't in "style" ... but that's ok :)

When I look at young people today, while they interact amongst themselves, I see a generation of people that despite having been taught moral values and beliefs, choose to turn their worlds upside down, then stand there and say WTF?

I guess it all boils down to what is instilled in a person as they were brought up. All I know for absolute certain is that todays people are making a lot of their own problems and haven't a clue as to how to deal with those problems. It appears to be a selfish ME ME ME thing.

Sadly I suppose it is. Very few couples know what sticking it out means. They have 5-10 bad arguments and decide it has to end. People basically lie to themselves. Till Death do us part is what they say, but they would rather be liars then to stick it out. :(

Umm, Lyn and I got married exactly one week after graduating high school. We were both 18. That was 24 years ago. It can be done.

Sure 4 years is a long time, 3 years at my job feels like a lifetime!

4 years isn't really that long, but it can feel like a lifetime LOL

Sadly, a lot of people refer to the first time someone is married as a "starter marriage".

well i say if someone is not happy they should not continue with thier marriage..even if it takes 2-3 to find right person.

also have to remember it is a lot more stressful being married nowadays comapred to 40-50 years ago.

40-50 years ago women hardly had to work and most people were able to afford to live on one salary ussually by the man. Most families nowadays need to have 2 salaries coming in, and that causes a lot of stress especially if there is children involved.

My mom was 15 & my dad was 18 (I was born 2 months after their wedding) and they just celebrated their 25th Anniversary last November.

I was 22 and my wife was 24 when we got married 3.5 years ago although we've been living together for 6 years now.

I don't think 4 years is a very long time at all.

People get married now a days not knowing what they want. Then they find out that the person they married isn't what they wanted and they get divorced.

And no 4 years isn't a long time to be married.
