I love the heels...I eat Earthgrains Whole Wheat bread, and the heels are the thickest and tastiest slices in the whole loaf.

I voted yes bcz i have eaten the heals, although I prefer not to consume heals, sometimes the heal lands on the even # of slices and must be utilized in certain lunchtime scenarios.
Burke > crust do not equal heals

Friend of mine is a baker, he makes some french bread that is...well....heavenly. I mean angels appear in the kitchen, and cherubs rub the butter tenderly on the bread. I'd kill a man for a heel of that stuff right now.

Regular bread heels are great for sloppy joe's. French or Italian bread heels are better than the regular slices for mopping up sauce from the plate.

I use the heels and any expired bread in my minnow trap for fishing. Minnows love bread and are great bait for bass, perch and pike.

Um. I'm not sure about this, but isn't it true that if you give bread to ducks or fish or anything that lives in the water... If the duck/fish eats too much bread, and then goes into the water, doesn't the bread expand and the fish bloats up? Not sure if that's true though.

I prefer not to eat the heals. But in the case of an emergency I always have them ready at hand.

Personally, I dough...I mean do. I like the ends more. I wish they made a bread that was all ends...uhhhh..somehow. LOL The thing I hate the most is when you have a sandwich somewhere and they serve it on that styrofoam bread..you know the same bread you can plug the holes in sheetrock with. Wonder bread..lol what a joke. It's a wonder they still call it bread. "Wonder
Bread...with 8 essential vita-ways to use it besides a bread." LOL Personally my favorite bread is Wheat from Wheat Berry Farms. It is full of grains and the best part is it doesn't 'unravel' when you try to spread peanut butter over it. LOL
PEACE!!

A traditional loaf of bread has 2x ends to it. That "last slice" on each end..that's the "heel".
