DISASTER AT SEA (vacation woes)

ok....as some of you already know i went on a vacation cruise on the 11th of April.

where to begin lol

When myself and my g/f were going on to the boat i began to notice that there were next to NO people getting on the boat that were under age 80....(im not kidding) there were probably 5 other guests on the boat that didnt begin their conversations with a question about some medical condition.

we (myself and my g/f) tried to convince ourtselves it was still going to be a great time.....lol.....well..if you drink enough you can have fun just about anywhere......ok well now on day 4 i had an all out drinking extravaganza......going from bar to bar hoping that something interesting was going to be happening somewhere.........but never finding it.

on the morning of day 5 i paid the price for the day of drinking on day 4.
we were parked off the coast of Jamacia (1 of the 2 ports i REALLY wanted to get into for many diff reasons <G>) and had 20 foot waves slamming the boat......sooo i have a puking hangover and motion sickness to go with it.
i never get motion sickness but with the really bad hangover.....it affected me pretty bad........so after the 15th time puking i decide i wanna go see the doc.

i go see rthe doc and tell him i had a ton to drink last nite and i just need something to knock me out or just make the puking stop......the nurse gives me a shot...then the doc ask's "have you had any diahrea?"
i said a little but that typically accompanies hangovers of this degree (im a veteran in this arena)
well he decides he isnt taking any chances and puts me in isolation in my cabin for 72 hours and i cant eat anything besides plain white rice and dry toast and bottled water.

can you believe this?

well there was a tv in the room........BUT.......it only had 8 channels on it........3 of them were looped commercials for shops on the ship.......1 played a taped episode of law and order..also looped......1 was a map channel that showed where the cruise ship was in the ocean (this turned out to be one of the better channels) the others were TNT, CNN and CARTOON NETWORK.
during this 72hour isolation i became an expert on current affairs with isreal and the palestinians.
the head stateroom attendant was kind enough to bring me a vcr...i thought to myself "this is awesome...something to watch!" well.....come to find out that there are only 60 tapes on the ship......of which 5 were remotely descent movies and out of those...none of them were ever available. and you could only get 2 tapes a day.

and to top this all off.....my g/f's mom told me id better not bring my laptop on the cruise or else i'd suffer her wrath heheheh
so in good relations i decided to leave my laptop at home :irate:

if there was ever a time in the history of my life id wish i hadnt listened to someone....this was it.

this cruise lasted 11 days.

ohh another thing..........activities on the boat were obviously going to geard to old folks.........one of the evening activites while on the ship was (and this was printed in a flyer that the staff slips under your door during the nite to inform you of the next days activities) the activity was.......
"IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME semminar"

there it is.

that kinda summarizes my cruise with Celebrity aborad the 12year old short ship called the "Zenith"
if a ship ever had been mis-named.....this is most certianly it.

i hope you get a laugh out of it.....most folks do :)
as soon as i got home i was able to laugh about it with my roomie.
just so glad the thing is over.
being back home working is like a vacation now.

im sure theres more things im leaving out of this.

ill add to this as i remember.

enjoy :rotfl:

:rotfl: Sounds like you had one hell of a time! lmao I think I would have taken a nice flying leap right over the edge if I had to endure that.

ya know whats funny about that is that when we were parked off the coast of grand cayman......(the 2nd place on the list of 2 that i wanted to see the most) i was looking at shore and i (this is NO LIE) i thought to myself....i could pack a few thing in my back pack...book over the rail (on a lower deck) and swim to shore...find an embassy and fly home.

that thought went through my mind.....i considered it for prolly about 10 seconds.

Amp,
Look at the bright side..., you now have a lasting memory that you will never forget! :D Plus, you will be able to pass on the next bowels seminar with the full confidence that you already have that info stored forever inside of your brain! The word on the street is that 1 "I.B.S." seminar is good for a lifetime, no continuing ed needed! :D

Welcome home!

ROTFLMAO.....

My wife has always wanted to go on a cruise. I figure when we hit 60 or so..for the same reasons you just outlined...7 days at sea with nothing to do but play shuffle board......eat bland food and talk about medical problems....

Thanks for the post, Amp....and Happy Birthday!

my g/f is the one that took care of booking.....did it through AAA.
just assumed we were in good hands there. lol

the reason for quarantine was because of the fear of the stomach/intestinal virus that seems to live very well on cruise ships.

I am so sorry! That must of sucked. I hate when you invest your money into something and it turns into a total flop like that. In situations like that you just gotta find ways to make the most of it. Atleast you have something to laugh about.
