Because you added "net"...I'm not sure if you mean Windows Messenger...the IM program similar to ICQ? Or the Messening Service...that little popup window where you can send text messages across a network.

i think your on about the one that comes pre installed in windows....yes you can remove it, i done it on mine this is how i did it.

load up a webpage (any webpage) then loadup "task manager"

ctrl/alt/delete to get this up, click procceses, then look for anything with msm or msmgr, right click on it and choose "end task"( as you cannot delete it if its running) then close browser, go to "my computer" (main drive) then programs look for messenger folder and delete it, empty recycle bin..all done, no more MSM

hope it helps. there is a more complicated way of removing it via "add remove programs" but this is the most streight forward, and it works for me so cannot see why it shouldnt work for you.

I got rid of mine through the "networking" tab of connection properties. I only needed the component "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)". I uninstalled the other components LAN and something else. I heard this here on one of the tweaks threads that there not needed (unless your on a network!).

I think Windows Messenger comes with the LAN component (makes sense) which I didn't use. Now Messenger isnt in the list of services at all. ;) I can still use everything else eg MSN Messenger etc.

To get rid of Messenger Service (lan messaging) go to Administrative Tools\Services and disable the Messenger Service.

There is no uninstall for Microsoft Messenger via add-remove programs unless youi hack the registry. You can however uninstall it like so:

http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/tune-05.htm
Uninstall Windows Messenger
Can't seem to find a way to uninstall Windows Messenger? Well, there is a way: Click Start > Run and in the Open: box type the following command (press OK when done):

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

An easy way to disable the messenger service for novices.
look for "Kill the messenger" on the above page.

Very easy then...just like this thread,
https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ ... did=136136

Simply open up the program, Tools==>Options==>Preferences tab==>uncheck those top 3 boxes.

Incredible easy..takes a whole 13 - 15 seconds or so. It won't load again, unless you have it starting with your e-mail client (such as Outlook XP)...even then, remove the checkbox to "Launch Windows Messenger" in the options under your e-mail client.

That's all there is to it...turned off the proper way.
