Reg Tweak?

It's from my tweaking page at TweaXP.com. Yes it works, but it needs to be set to be a multiple of your MTU/MSS.

Is there a specific formula or are these standard settings for a 1460 MSS?

Confused by Conflicting Information

I'm going to try the buffer tweak but I'm confused by conflicts between information on the values to use.
In the article link provided by mccoffee, the author is determining MTU by using ping and increasing the data unit size until he hits fragmentation. I'm currently using an MTU of 1500. If I use his method, my MTU would be 1472. Confusing. Also, I thought the ping method described above was used to determine MSS. All the recommendations for cable that I can find in this forum use 1460 for MSS. Based on my ping results shouldn I be using 1472 or am I missing a key point somewhere.
Based on the key nature of these values in calculating the buffer sizes, I'd greatly appreciate some clarification.

StoneManAl completely ignore the ping way of finding your MTU, if you are using a cable modem your MTU should be 1500 thus your MSS 1460, this buffer is based on your MSS value.
