I posted a tweaking question in the general tweaking forum , and was wondering if a mod could move it here , or maybe someone folloe this link to see it ........thanks

here is the correct information :


connection is cable

my isp is eastlink ( cannot find advertised speed)

TCP options string = 020405b401010402
MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460

Would u happen to know there capp rate or advertised speed?? I
saw u wre from canda i didn't relize that eailer i know most american isp advertised speeds.

sorry for the wait , had to call my isp and was told as follows :


advertised.......100k/sec

average for users is 300-400k/sec


max up is 1024

max down is 5120

average being 1.5 mg/sec which is what i am presently getting


they also said that only 30% of the connections on my grid are being used , so my speeds should be the highest.

Try the following:

Download the TCP Optimizer and try the following settings.

Settings tab:

select - cable modem
check - custom settings
network adapter selection - your NIC
check modify all adapters
maxmtu - 1500
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 64240
MTU Discovery - yes
Black Hole Detect - no
Selective Acks - yes
Max Dup ACKs - 3
TCP 1323 Options - uncheck both boxes

Other Settings tab:

Max Connections per Server - 10
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 20
Lan Browsing Speedup - optimized

Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect.

VERY IMPORTANT TO DO THE FOLLOWING

1. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.

2. Open IE and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure NOTHING there is checked.

3. ALWAYS connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC from the manufacturer. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it is ISP dependent unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL (the instructions are in my Help & Tips link). If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

4. Clear your temporary internet files.

5. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 15 seconds.

6. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot 1.2 & Ad Aware 6.0 to remove any spyware then install and update SpywareBlaster to stay spyware FREE. YOU MUST USE BOTH AD AWARE & SPYBOT TO ENSURE YOU ARE SPYWARE FREE SINCE ONE FINDS WHAT THE OTHER MISSES.

7. Make sure you do the faster web page tweak in my Help & Tips link.

8. If you have Zone Alarm as a firewall uninstall it then visit Zonelabs.com for further instructions on removing it's left over junk.

9. Install Outpost Firewall or Sygate Firewall, both have FREE and Pro versions and are heads above ZA.

10. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one IMMEDIATELY, AVG 6.0 is an excellent FREE AV app.

11. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates.

this is the only item i couldn`t find . is it a must that this be done ? with the rest finished i am now getting 3.3 which is almost double from before . should i do the one quoted above /where is it ?

i am presently running za , and have no problems with it . are the two you mentioned easier on resources or maybe another reason..

Get ridd of zone alarm it is a resource hog plus the net will run smoother. To get rid of protocols goto my computer control panel, network and dialup connection All you need if not on a network is tcpip.

found it and all were checked . did as posted and will post back with my speed .
