Building new machine... opinions needed!

Post by qball15j »

I set myself around a $1000 budget. I've been doing some browsing and decided to order everything from one site. Here's what I've came up with so fare. I would like some opinions.

Before you ask, where's the HDD, CDROM and video card. I'm gonna scrap my current system for those. I beleive my MSI GForce 4 Ti4800 SE will stand up to most of what I throw at it.

This leaves lots of money left over for something else...........like maybe a couple of Raptors to run in a raid set up. Also, I would never buy anything from TigerDirect. All the above prices are from NewEgg.

Why would you recommend that CPU and mobo? I've talked to a few other people and they've mentioned that same CPU but I have no clue why. That mobo you posted a link to isn't really what i'm looking for but the RAM on the other hand I may consider. But as fare as ordering from TigerDirect, i've never had a problem over the past four years with them.

I'm not an overclocker.

I'm also not ready to put alot into a cooling system besides an air cooled heatsink and fan. This system will be used for gaming and other tasks.

That would be perfect.

Since you wold have some money left over with this setup get a good hsf and just overclock her toa 3200+ and stop there. You would have a killer amd set-up then.

If I had the money laying around that would be exactly what I would buy. From what I have read, the 2500 OC's easily to 3200. In addition, I would add a 9800 and at least one raptor for a screamin gaming machine.

qball15j, If you are not sold on the proc, just use the one you are thinking about. You will still be under your budget. As far as TigerDirect goes............................This is something that has been discussed here as well as many other forums. I guess it's really a matter of opinion, but I am not willing to spend the kind of money they want for most items. They tend to be on the high side of e-stores.

Thanks guys for your opinions, they will be taken into consideration as it looks like i'm going to go through my options again. Getting everthing from tigerdirect is just a matter of convience. lansens, I realize there a little high on some things but that's a discussion for a whole other thread.
