First of all here is my settings with Cable nut & SG tweak for widows ME, 512 DDR ram and 1 gig Athlon.

TCP properties for IP = 68.x.xxx.xxx ()
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; Win 9x 4.90; T312461; Cox High Speed Internet Customer)
Notes: Read the Analyzer FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.
MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor of 4)
Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

The last couple of weeks I've had a problem on a couple of forums. It's like I'm on a 14.4 and it drags to a crawl or stops on some forums. It opens up the address but hangs inbetween threads. Recently I switched to IE 6 but it allready was having problems with IE 5.5. I think it is worse with 6 but hard to say. I just checked speed at speakeasy with a 2942/215. You couldn't tell it was any where near that speed. I had a couple of glitches here but overall it is fast here. I'm just talking out loud and wondering if anyone has any ideas. Thanks for any suggestions.

Wow, that was a few changes. Most of those items had blanks before. I think overall that has helped. The forums that were extremely slow are still slow but not quite as bad. It doesn't seem to hang in between pages as bad. I'll leave it this way, time being, unless you have settings I could experiment with.

I noticed the defaultRcvwindow changed big time. Is that the norm now, to keep that number lower?

you want to keep that rwin number low to mid but it all is based off of latency.

In interent Explorer low to fix hang time goto tools internet options, connections and make sure noting is checked

Also try this in regedit For 98, 98SE & ME

On the right for ALL OS's change these entries: (ALL values are HEXIDECIMAL)

There are not any checks in IE under connections. My settings have remained the same for months untill now. I can find the reg key no problem. However I'm not familiar with HEXIDECIMAL, sorry. I did a search on Google and it gives some insight but not enough from what I've read to change numbers. Is there a good site to explaain how ths works? For instance in the registry it has this shown for class 08 00 00 00 or DnsPriority d0 07 00 00. What number or how is that changed if I give it a 1 value? I'll make a backup on that change but I'd like to know a little more before a change.

To change the value right mouse click on the value and select modify and enter the values above once you have done all of them reboot to take effect and see how fast your pages load.

For 98 & ME they should all look like:

01 00 00 00

Yes, that is what I was after. I changed them all to 01 00 00 00. It must be ok I still have a connection! It seems to work pretty good. So Now I could experiment with the Rcv window to see if it gets better or worst? It's been a while, what is the best way to check latency. I was thinking PC Pitstop had a test, or is there specific numbers if I ran ping or tracert? I'm thinking what I have is a lot better. I'll know more during busy times tommorrow.

Thanks for the link. My highest latency was 220 during a download. I see it said to use the calculator, but I can't find the calculator, sorry. Where is it, or am I just blind? LOL I think I can follow the other instructions.

OK I did ur rwin for you I used 200 instead of 220 where that 64240 is in cablenut try 74460

(Maximum Bandwidth x Maximum Anticipated Latency) / 8

Example of my connection with a 3000 download cap with a maximum latency of 100 ms:

(3000 x 100) / 8 = 37500 To make it a multiple of MSS divide by 1460:

37500 / 1460 = 25.68 Then round up to the nearest even whole number:

26 x 1460 = 37960 - my RWIN

Thanks for the example. I've worked with a couple of settings but it seems about the same. I think I'm going to live with the fact some sites must have problems. I can be a somewhere when I know there is light traffic. It still gets hung up on or between pages. Frustrating but that's life. Others seem to be having problems also but not all by any means.
