Extra fans.

I read at THG that it is a good idea to fit fans where there are slots for them. My P4 always seems to be running hot, and I have an empty fan slot on the case. Two questions...

1. How do I hook a new fan up so it gets power, are there standards?

2. Should the fan blow air into the case or suck it out?

Ok,

1) The fan has a 4pin molex and it goes right to the psu for power, if has a 3pin, try and get the 3pin to 4pin adapter. It's preffered to get the power straight from the psu. :D

2) If the fan goes in the front of the case, the fan blows IN into the case, pulling in cool air from the outside into the case.

If in the back of the case, the fan blows OUT out of the case to remove the hot air.

Can never have enough case fans. The better the airflow thru the case, the lower the temps ;)

And the louder the case. ;) Other than that, like LT said. If at all possible, move up to 92mm or even better, 120mm fans. More airflow and less/lower pitch noise. Some cases are just unworkable as far as adding larger fans via Dremel. :(

Try not to duct the fan if not needed. Air disturbance causes noise. Noise = bad.

My setup goes 4/80mm, Stealth fans in frontblowing in, 2/80mm on the side blowing out, 1 rear 60mm fan, and a cutout on PSU 92mm, sucks the air out from right over the heatsink, also a 4 switch fan controller, My CPU Temps, are between 34 and 38C load, system Temps. are 31 to 34C, keepin it cool, :D
