what's the best site to test..

best site to test your connection? i just upgraded my connection today and i went up to 1.5mb -> 3.5mb downstream and 254kb -> 384 upstream.. links would be helpful.. thanks in advance..

The most accurate test of your connection is a fast reliable FTP server such as these two:
OOL FTP Speed Test
ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/pub/test64
AOL FTP Test
ftp://ftp.newaol.com/aol6.0/179902/setupaol60.exe
A small file download or java based test is not very accurate.

I tried this one and my speed was 206.3 KB/sec

sorry guys but the speedguide test is still not acurate for me. not sure why though.

As the note that comes with our speed test suggests, it's just intended as a guideline and affected by many variables. It is as good and as inacurate as many other online speed tests. The best way to test would be to download large files from a distant server (not your ISP's)...
With the current test file size of 200KB and 3000+ hits per day, the SG speed test generates the following traffic: ~600 MB per day, ~18 GB per month... We simply don't have enough spare bandwidth to provide a larger test, imagine the impact if we increase to a 10MB file... It would require ~900GB per month !!! (with the current number of hits).
Mnosteele, our test starts immediately when the page is hit, so the impact of RWIN caching is minimal, it still has to go through the pipe to you.

Holy cow, the speakeasy speed test clocked my upload here at work at 800KB/sec, yes killobytes a second
my download was at 350KB/sec
